Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

A while back there was some speculation as to how Zee and Sucker would relate the topics of high stakes holdem and short handed holdem in their upcoming book. I've been thinking about it a little more as I play and read the forums about short handed/high stakes (haven't played any high stakes yet, just read) and one thing that would seem to be similar between the two games is the degree to which your ability to play well from the blinds determines your success. I'm sure that for a lot of you I'm stating the obvious but if I'm not mistaken, your ability in the blinds is a vastly more important skill in short handed and high stakes than in low to mid stakes full ring games. I hope their book talks about this in depth as I'm not the only one concerned with improving this aspect of my game. I don't remember the thread name but someone recently posted a topic entitled something to the effect of "what topic would you most like to see written about?" and there were some well respected players who wanted to see more on the topic of blind play. Thoughts??

My only thoughts are to encourage the writers to get this book out as soon as possible. There is a serious vacuum that needs to be filled here.

I always like these books to come out as soon as possible, but I'd rather it take a bit longer if it means that it will be more thorough, and that something won't be mistakenly overlooked. I'm sure it will be a top book though, and am really looking forward to it.

it takes a long time to get all the stuff straight without mistakes. and convincing sucker to let me put in ten chapters on fishing as i know that is what most people really want to read about.

Hooray!

If you can teach me to play my blinds well, you can put in all the fishing chapters you want.

Good news. Take your time. You can write a poker book anytime. June fishing comes but once a year.

That's all this guy needs is somebody encouraging him to go fishing. Stop tempting him. I'm just jealous I suppose because I'm no longer a country boy and don't even have a fishing license anymore, my fly rod is in storage and my spin casting stuff is MIA. Ugh.

Re: Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

Zee is right; blind play is discussed at length in a variety of contexts. Of course, there's a lot more than just blind play to beating high limit/shorthanded games and they are covered in depth as well. Needless to say, you'll be pleased, but it takes quite a bit of time to get complex ideas across in a clear way while making sure everything is correct, so be patient. Plus, that Zee guy keeps trying to put in stories about the deer at his house eating his newly planted trees. If he put in owl stories, I'd keep them, but deer? C'mon!

I stopped fishing for about 2 years once and inevitably I would find myself driving by a lake on opening day each of those years and got a sinking feeling in my gut for not being there. Like I wasn't fulfilling a duty or something. Then i Bought my brother's boat in january with money I won after winning over 20K in two months playing six max on party 15/30-20/40 so I'm now fulfilling my fishing "duties" again. I usually pay my wife 60% of my profits and put the rest in the bankroll but she was in a really good mood the day I suggested that a boat would be a good idea and let me use 5k from her cut.

Then I went down 8k in those games over 2.5 months which IMO is too long of a downswing to blame on variance. Now I'm back to the full ring games and winning consistently as I did for the 2 years before 6 max. It's amazing how much more comfortable i am with the full games.

anyway, I'm hoping to get a little more training in shorthanded after your book comes out because game selection is a bit more difficult now that the SH limit games are so popular. Hopefully i'm not busto by then but if i am at least i'll be able to eat bass for dinner.

i just so happen to have my great horned owl that nests on my place, nesting this year right off my driveway. she flys out of the nest most times i drive in but not on the way out. i dont know the reason for that but owls are owls i guess. last two years she has had one baby that made it to adulthood.
yesterday it smelled like skunk around that area so i think she may have gotten one. great horned owls are one of only a few animals that will eat a skunk.

Its the 10 chapters on fishing that would get me to look at the book. I've finally accepted that poker info just gets lost in the empty space between my ears.

I believe owls don't scat that often, and when they do, its dry stuff. Making them great house and party animals. Or was it that the dry [censored] comes from mouth, can't remember for sure...

Ray,
Even though I'm an old ex-countryboy I thought skunks had no natural enemies. But then, one morning right here on edge of town, came out and big ol' owl was sitting on top of my jeep with skunk. I froze and stared at him for full 2 minutes before he took off ( flying low, heavy skunk I guess ? ) What other animals will eat a skunk ?

Ray Zee 06-10-2006 11:05 PM

Re: Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

the owls like the skunks as they can swoop down and get them on the back without getting sprayed themselves. although the skunk will let it go. coyotes will kill and get sprayed and eat a skunk at times. so will mountain lions.

Re: Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

Owls regurgitate the fur and bones of small animals that get swallowed whole.

Re: Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

Hey Ray, local rivers are high. Rock Ck has still been fishing, salmon flies and goldens. I stay away, crowds. The Missouri is fishing and the crowds are not there yet. I might run over again this week. Everything blown in your neck of the woods? I keep hearing good things about Lake Koocanusa. I'm going to have to fish it.

Ray Zee 06-13-2006 12:21 AM

Re: Ray Zee/J.A. Sucker Book Prediction

rivers are all blown now but soon to come down. lake koocanusa is loaded with water and a little late for fishing it but it always yields some good ones. best bet is feeder streams with spawing cutts, like above the hungry horse res. you can get all the 14 in plus ones you want.
