Diet @ energy

I've always believed the best way to lose weight was naturally through diet and exercise. But so far i've never been able to sustain a diet or exercise program...So i'm looking for a chemical edge.

I'm considering this weight loss system:

http://gnc.imageg.net/graphics/produ...-2402262nm.jpg

"A comprehensive diet and exercise program to help you achieve the body youdesire. This 60 day program has been scientifically designed to assist you in reaching your weight management goals.Features three premium supplements and includes an easy-to-follow total wellness booklet that provides a sample meal plan, exercise tips, advice on maintaining a healthy outlook and a journal tohelp you stay on your weight loss plan.

CONTROL ACS
Clinically shown to reduce food intake and control calories at the beginning of your diet. Control ACS also includesingredients to boost energy and metabolism.* Enhanced with B-vitamins that are essential for carbohydrate metabolism and energy production and chromium that supports your metabolism by assisting insulin.*

TONALIN® CLA
One of the best-selling supplements among dieters.Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a naturally occurring healthy fatty acid that is present in foods often excluded when restricting dietary intake. Each capsule supplies 1,000mg of CLA made from clinically studied Tonalin®, one of the highest quality conjugated linoleic acids available.

FIBER
Each daily two capsule serving supplies approximately 1000mg of dietary fiber from psyllium seed husks. Daily consumption of dietaryfiber provides bulk, eases passage and helps to speed transit time through the digestive tract.* Increasing your daily fiber intake can also help you feel full, so you eat less andwait longer between meals.* In addition, fiber helps to gently flush away unwanted debris and accumulated toxins from the digestive system."

I'm aslo looking for a general vitamin since my diet sucks:

GNC MEGA MEN

too bad they banned ephedra in the US, that Xenadrine [censored] was awesome.

you can still buy it over the net

Re: Diet @ energy

Ephedra was banned. Ephedrine HCL, the synthetic version, is still legal, and works better. Check out Vasopro by Mega-Pro. Stacking 200 mg of caffeine with 25 mg ephedrine HCL is dirt cheap and will be more effective than any of the prepackaged stuff that's way overpriced.

As for the stuff you posted, it looks worthless (vitamin is OK though). You should be getting enough fiber from your diet anyway, and psyllium husk is just Metamucil. CLA is not going to help you much, if any, especially if you're just starting out.

But the most important thing to note is that these are just supplements. If you don't have your diet and exercise in place so that you're running a caloric deficit, there's nothing you can take that will make you lose weight (except DNP, but nobody wants to go there).

aggie,

Here's something I read on CNN today that sounds pretty reasonable when it comes to diet:

Eat fewer foods of animal origin; more fruits and vegetables; more plant-based protein from soy foods, for example. Make sure you've got omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, either from oily fish, or fish oil supplements. Try to reduce consumption of quick-digesting carbohydrate foods, which are the ones made from any kind of flour, sugar, high fructose corn syrup.

And try to eat more of the slower-digesting carbohydrate foods, which are beans, whole grains, packed grains, winter squashes, sweet potatoes. Really learn the differences between good fats and bad fats. Use olive oil as a main cooking oil. Include nuts, seeds, avocados, in your diet.

Take a good multivitamin, multimineral supplement. Add things to the diet, like green tea and dark chocolate and red wine, in moderation, if you want their antioxidant effects.

I don't really know anything about Dr. Andrew Weil, but it's from an inteview with him: interview

Re: Diet @ energy

I have taken ephedra based products in the past. My advice if you decide to go that route is to be cautious about when you take it in relation to exercise. Plan your day so that you can exercise BEFORE you take the pill no matter what, and never take it too late at night when you plan to work out the next morning.

Basically, your heart will be racing to no end if you try and take it before working out so don't say I didn't warn you. PM me if you have any other questions about it or working out in general. Oh and F t-nation go to menshealth.com and check out the forums great place to start.

Re: Diet @ energy

Diablo's food advice is good, but I would take it a step further:

Eliminate all simple carbs from your diet that aren't found in fruits. No more candy, regular soda, cake, etc. Try that for two months and do not gorge on other things and you are almost guaranteed to lose weight.

Don't judge in moderation at all -- this is most people's downfall -- just make a categorical rule of "this is what I will not eat."

After two months apply the same thing to fried foods and you'll have yourself a clean diet and be on the way to good health.

Anything that puts a time limit, ie in 60 days, 6 week diet etc, is doomed to fail. Achieving a high level of fitness is a lifelong pursuit. You can still find some ephedra in gas stations, I was just in one that had them 4 pilss for 1$. Too expensive, and there are better alternatives.

Re: Diet @ energy

I don't know much about the product but even if it does work, you will probably just put the fat back on. What you need is to eat and excercise in a sustainable manner, that way when you lose some weight you can keep it off. I used to eat total garbage and had a lot of trouble trying to eat healthier. You don't have to be a health nut, but here are some decent suggestions that I implemented in my diet. My main problem is eating enough fruits and veggies.

1) switch white bread to whole wheat
2) buy some veggies like green beans, asparagus, broccoli. Veggies that are dark green. Instead of trying to make the veggies into something fancy, just use one of them at a sitting. Cook in frying pan with some sesame oil, and a bit of salt.
3) Try to eat fish 1-2 times a week. I try to eat salmon as hit is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. (I am sure there are others). Since I am not a big fish fan, I sometimes don't eat any fish, I take salmon oil everday.
4)Stock your fridge with cans of V8 instead of soda.
5)try to eat 1-3 fruits a day. Banana's are the best.
6) Buy only one bag of chips when you go shopping.
7) fast food 3 times a week maximum.

I have never really had a weight problem, but I think if you eat more veggies and fruits, and less snack food that right there will lower the calories in your diet.

Then to create an energy deficit in your body, workout at the gym 2-3 times a week. This is very important. If you havent really worked out before or in a while you will see a noticeable difference in like 2-3 weeks. And you will also feel much healthier and have a lot more confidence. If you find working out to boring, then try to take up a sport of some kind that you can play regularly and is a good workout. First semester I joined the novice rowing team. This semester I am starting to take boxing lessons. Also a good way to meet more people.

Fat ass.

the ephedra ban was lifted (and that was appealed) but most companies still do no want to produce products with ephdra in them. like another poster pointed out, you can get ephadrine HCI/HCL as it is used for people who suffer from asthma. combine the EPH with caffiene and aspirin and you have an effective thermogenic.

anything else is a waste of money, but even the ECA stack is only a slighty aid in fat reduction.

gamblore,

That's very similar to what I've done for the past couple of months except that I dump 6 and 7, have sparkling water for 4, and for fruits I'm heavy on oranges and grapefruit. I've also cut down my drinking a fair amount.

How about phentermine? The stuff requires a prescription, but this can easily be obtained legally by doing your homework first (as long as you don't have an eating/dieting disorder that makes you diet when you shouldn't).

Re: Diet @ energy

I have changed my diet out of curiousity. I added an apple, an orange (or grapefruit), and a banana a day to my diet. I switched from coffee to green and black tea (one bag per day, many cups) as well and do not get headaches when I don't have any for a day. I eat a large bowl of Wheat Chex or Cracklin' Oat Bran for breakfast and a banana--massive amounts of fiber. For lunch I have a tuna or salmon sandwich and I'm taking 3000mg of Fish Oil capsules each day. I also drink about a half-gallon of water a day. I eat dark green veggies for dinner, but should be eating more. I eat lots of spinach, brocolli, zuchini, and carrots, but only at dinner.

I've been on this diet for a month and have not weighed myself yet. The first thing I noticed is that I no longer crave soda. I used to drink three or four 2-Liter bottles a week, now I drink no pop. I have been working out three days a week and feel much stronger--just treadmill with an arm attachment. The next thing I noticed was that when I T.C.O.B. (drop a duece) I spend far less time on the pot and my turd doesn't stick to the bowl like it used to. I now drop the deuce two or three times a day compared with one a day before.

I don't expect to see immediate physical results--I'm doing this because I want to. My wife now gets to eat almost no red meat and I would actually prefer to go to a vegetarian/fish diet. What stops me is the fact that I have almost no good vegetarian recipes and fish is goddam expensive. I weighed ~175 when I started this diet, 10 lbs. heavier than when I graduated high school (1984). Energy wise, I think I'm good. I don't think there is a magic bullet for weight loss. You need to make a lifestyle change. I'm finding that giving up sweets is the tough part, though I haven't had Ice-cream since Christmas. Good luck and be careful with those miracle products.
