Jason Varitek is leading all catchers in all-star voting...

WTF? Is that a joke?

The guy is hitting .240 before tonight.

All-Star voting is not an accurate reflection of performance? Who knew?

Mauer or Posada (even a half dozen others) are much much better so far, but the All-Star voting has hasn't entirely been based on numbers.

I know but how could he be leading when he's having such a piss poor year? I guess the "RSN" are voting madly.

There are about 10mm Red Sox fans in the USA that didn't know what baseball was 3 years ago, so this is not surprising.

Have Red Sox fans managed to surpass Yankees fans in over all level of annoyingness and blind faith in their players? Certainly seems possible.

Of course. I don't mind the real Yankees fans either. But as your team grows in popularity, the people around your area who once couldn't give a [censored] about the team start becoming authorities on it. See: Patriots fans who came about when Tom Brady came around, and Chargers fans(if you've spent time on the west coast during football season) for further evidence of this phenomenon.

It's certainly nothing to get so worked up about, but I don't see why people can't be disappointed when there is a great player on their team who doesn't get enough credit. I just don't get why people need to be holier than thou when it comes to this, because time to time everyone gets frustrated by something that seems obvious.

I don't complain about anything, really. Bandwagon fans are annoying. You don't deal with them nearly as much since you don't live in an area that is insanely populated by them. They really do make sports a lot less enjoyable. You should know this, considering you made an entire post totally dedicated to complaining about people who care too much about their own team.

On the flipside, if you make a list of things that are acceptable for the highly sophisticated sports fan to complain about, I will adhere to it to the fullest extent.

The people who are pissed Jason Varitek leads the league in votes for a catcher are upset with the same thing. They think Edgar Renteria is the worst. They think the Arroyo-Pena trade is the worst. They think 'Tek, Trot, and big Papi are God.

It seems like you're just arguing because you don't like to be wrong. Obviously, your annoyance with people being a homer when they post on twoplustwo.com is different than my annoynace with people when they are a homer when they 'voice their opinions' via all-star voting. Apparently, complaining about one sort of opining is more relevant and 'groundbreaking' than the other.

Why don't you go talk to those people, then? You don't see the difference between "there are a lot of ignorant douches in the world" and "hey guys, don't be an ignorant douche when you post on the board?" Yes, complaining about something on a message board is more relevant than another, when one of them has to do with the people on a message board.
