Tilt Prevention Suggestions
 

I wanted to know what people do to prevent tilt or minimize it. I was thinking of making a playlist of music that I would play if I run into a really bad beat. I would really like to here what other do. Thanks.

Think about the things that are so much more important than poker, i.e. family, wife, girlfriend, kids, health, religion, etc. Pick the one thing that is most important to you in life, (just like Curly said in City Slickers), and be thankful for it after every time you get a bad beat.

What is your defanition of tilt ???

If you are TRULY having a problem with tilting you should not be playing poker. If you are talking about getting angry now and again. Ask the card room to disable your chat.

Bad beats happen to EVERYBODY - even fish. After your 10,000th bad beat it will not hurt so much. Keep a record of you +/- every day and once you see that you are a long term winner. You will still get angry.

I do. It's part of the game and something you REALLY have to deal with. I have cards that I shuffle in anger (used to throw them LOL).

What you are looking for is something physical that will work off the steam, jumping jacks, push ups, shuffling.

Start cutting yourself everytime you lose if you're more than an 80% favorite at any point in the hand

If I am live...and take a bad beat....I'll say "nice hand" and "deal me out" ....take a walk around the casino for as long as 30 minutes....get my head back together....tighten up my play and try to forget the beat...

I think tilt is caused not so much by losing, but by losing when you think you should win.

Therefore, to combat this, I imagine that the players are very sophisticated. I tell myself that they realize that they can't beat me straight up, and to compensate, they play extra loose in an attempt to try to give me a bad beat in the hopes it will tilt me off my game. I imagine that their whole strategy is centered on trying to tilt me.

Then every time I take a tough beat, I say to myself something like this...


"ok, here it is. This is the hand he's been playing for. Will it work? Will he succeed in tilting me? Are you going to change your game?"


I find it easy to stick to my game if I associate that with somehow defeating their strategy immediately.

thats a good one as soon as i starting playin while listening to my ipod it made it a bit easier to not be results oriented, maybe also try popping tranquilizers?

Understand where tilt comes from, and losing hands is part of the game. As long as you play the hand well, in the long run tell yourself as long as you do +EV moves - you will win... it's all about understanding it i guess.

Tell yourself that if you are a 90% favorite you will lose 10% of the time. Beats happen. You are never entitled to win. You never have a winning hand until all the cards are dealt or until your opponent folds.

Let me give you an example of a hand I played last night at 1/2 NL. Hero is BB with AQo. Lets just say everyone has $200.

UTG raises to $7, 3 folds, button calls, SB folds, Hero calls.

Flop ($22): KhTxJx
Hero bets $15 (with the absolute effing nuts), UTG calls, Button folds.
Turn ($52): KhTxJx(3h)
Hero checks, UTG bets $25, Hero raises to $100, UTG calls.
River ($252): KhTxJx(3h)(8h).
Hero bets $78 all-in, UTG calls.

Hero shows AQo for A high str8; UTG shows Qh6h for flush.

ugh. rather than get pissed, I thank Party Poker for bringing players like this in, and I hope to play this guy or another guy like him again soon.

After a hand I look back and try to figure out if I was ahead when most of money was going in. If so, I'm happy. If not, not so much....

Nothing prevents my tilt. The only thing I can do is have a maximum loss through disabling instacash and putting nearly my entire bankroll in a savings account.

I just look at the graph of the last time I tilted badly, and think of all the things I could have bought with that 50 BB.

Then I don't tilt or close the tables.

Call the person who stole your pot a fish or donkey and then proceed to 3bet bluff, c/r bluff, etc until you've gotten your money back.
