I killed 2 animals today
 

On my drive home from school. I ran over a crazy squirrel who was lookin to commit suicide. Then on my drive on the highway, a bird crashed into my car, the bird flew off to the side and layed on the side of the road. My car is officially an animal killer

anyone ever hit any animals?

My ex hit a deer lightly in the butt while I was in the passenger seat. It was late at night, and she'd braked hard, but the deer froze and turned 180 degrees in place before running, so he got a little love tap that dented my car. Then he jumped over a fence and into our hearts.

I owned a wooodchuck once doing eighty miles an hour in the middle of the night. It really was an impressive whump sound. Even though it was a deserted highway through a state forest at 2 am I couldn't swear I didn't cream a toddler or something, so I had to go back and look.

Ran over a cat once, it was kinda sickening. You just see it happening and can't stop it, then you feel the bump. Drove in silence the rest of the way.

One afternoon, I'm lost out in the country. I'm looking down at a map to try and figure out where the hell I am. I look up a few seconds too late, as a mother duck and a bunch of ducklings are crossing the street in single-file fashion.

I didn't feel any bumps... but I didn't look back. I don't think I could have handled it.

A few years back, I was looking for a cheap pickup. On the side of the road, I found a '93 Toyota light pickup that was on sale for $3000. It had 31k miles on it, but the body was dented to [censored] on both sides.

The old, tobacco stained farmer said that it was the only brand-new car he'd ever had. He was very proud of it when he bought it so he drove it out to California and back to show his family. On the way there, he hit a deer in the CO Rockies that crumpled the left side. And on the way back, he clipped another deer that mangled the other side.

He said he figured God didn't want him to have nice stuff. 70k miles later, I still have that ugly ol' thing.

I hit a deer last fall. I was merging onto the highway and looking over my shoulder to look for a break in the traffic. I hit the gas, and looked back through the windshield in time to watch a deer jump in front of my car. It hit the passenger-side headlight, bounced off the hood, and then did a 180 as it flew over the car. I got out of the car to inspect the damage and the deer was nowhere to be seen. It must have hobbled off to the woods to die. My crappy car had $3000 in damage to it, but the insurance company insisted on me getting it repaired instead of considering it a write-off. A year later, the transmission went and I sold it for $500 for parts. Sigh.

when i was like 9 or so, my mom was driving and i was in the passenger seat. we hit a deer so hard the limbs tore off and the deer went straight into the air. The car had serious damage to it and we ended up gettin a new car and the deer was well ... torn to pieces.

I ran over a woodchuck on the expressway during rush hour. It somehow got on an overpass w/no shoulder. Felt really bad as it was terrified, randomly running from lane to lane. I slowed down but, of course, ended up timing it perfect to run over it with my front AND rear tires. I was bummed for a week.

Also have nailed a squirrel, frog, many birds and a goose. The goose literally exploded as there were feathers flying around everywhere.

Back when I was in college, my friend hit a horse. The front of her car was totally destroyed but the horse walked away! How does that happen?

4 birds and a couple snakes for me.

One bird was a big Egret-type bird on the side of the highway. I was doing 65-70mph in a Uhaul box truck and it flew in front of me and hit the flat area above the cab. The sound was very loud and I just assumed he was dead. I look in the mirror and he tumbles off the side of the road, stumbles, and then flies away. [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

Another time I actually killed two birds at the same time. A pair of birds flew into my grill at about 45mph and died instantly. They were both stuck to the radiator.

3 deer (2 of them simultaneously), 5 or 6 birds (3 of them simultaneously), 2 raccoons, 1 undetermined animal.

I used to do a lot of driving at night on country roads.

Thanks for reminding me of this one.

I was like 17, on my way to play pool with some friends when this dog darts into the road right in front of me. I slam the brakes, but can't slow down in time. Loud whump. Kids age 5-8 in the yard playing with the dog as it ran out, lucky they didn't follow it...

I had to stop and talk to the parents, who were pissed at the kids for playing with the dog near the street, like they had been yelled at for previously.

Boy, that really makes you feel good.

I've hit a cat, once. I actually tried to hit another. Seriously. The car in front of me had just clipped it and it was spasming in the middle of the road like it had just got a 1000-volt jolt. I wanted to put it out of its misery. I don't know how I missed it.

My best friend hit a fawn with his '93 Camaro. The car was so low to the ground that it punted the deer, really, just booted it into the air like a field goal kick, out of the range of our headlights. Neither we nor Animal Control could find it, so we assumed it lived through it.

I was also in a car that ran over a turtle. I can't think of a more unfair matchup of car vs. animal, and I also can't think of a more disgusting sound than the crunchy-squish it made when we flattened it. It makes me ill every time I think about it.

I think it has a lot to do with where i live, there's a hunting preserve company right next to my house. This means they have a lot of hunting dogs caged up that ocasionaly get loose and run onto the road. The deer just suck because they're thicker then nats, and they like to jump out of the ditch and infront of your car without any warning.

Also, when driving with my dad a few weeks ago, he was about to hit a squirrel on the road when out of no where, another squirrel runs into the middle of the road and grabs the other squirrel with his mouth and runs him to safety.

In 4 years of driving I've never hit anything. But once I witnessed a pigeon get run over in the city. It made a popping noise, kind of like what I imagine it would sound like if a bird's body was shattered in an instant. Oh, right.

What does hitting animals have anything to do with how good of a driver you are? I live in a large city, but the main road goes that goes to my neighborhood runs right by a swamp. I've hit two deers and countless armadillos and possums, you have no control in an animal decides to run out in front of you if you are going 55.

At our ranch, my grandfather and I were driving into town in our 30 year-old pick-up. There was a dead deer next to the road, and a group of buzzards feasting. As we drive by, one of the buzzards flies off and BAM, right into our windshield. It only cracked the windshield, but there wasn't much of the buzzard left.

I've nailed various critters over the years, but the only one that sticks out in my mind is the only dog I've hit.

Doing about 40 in a full-size 74 Blazer, lifted with large tires...not the most stable vehicle in the world, and a large lab jumps out in front of us.

I had enough time to slam on the breaks if I wanted to, but the dog was toast no matter what.

Since I had a pregnent women in my truck, 6 months or so...I hit the gas, gave him a quicker ending and kept us safe.

I t-boned a deer going 80 mph in a Saturn. Its shoulder hit the front right fender causing it to rotate around and slam into the driver side door and window. It damaged the hood, fender, wheel well, and door panel...the plastic panels weren't as dent resistant as I had hoped. It was quite an exhilarating experience. Fortunately animal damage is covered by comprehensive insurance.
