Playing at an Internet Cafe
Bad idea? Is it safe? Should I worry about my password and/or change it after I'm done?

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
all the transmission between the client and server is encrypted. how well it's encrypted, i don't know

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
I'm going to be touring europe on my bicycle for the next year, so I was planning on getting a little bit of play in here and there at internet cafes. Anyway, what I ahd planned on doing was purchasing a thumb drive. I'll keep a copy of my keepass password database on there and use that to put all my passwords in. That ought to protect against keystroke recorders. And since all communication between the client and server is encrypted, i don't think there will be any problems.

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
I play in an internet-cafe once or twice a week.
Never had any problems. I admittedly am not very knowledgeable about computers and may not be the best one to ask though. |
Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
Its a bad idea. no doubt,

If someone has compromised the computer that you are going to use, they will have full access to your passwords. Edit: If you're going to use your own computer, you will be fine, as all data sent to poker sites is encrypted. |

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
Piggybacking off a net cafe's wireless network isn't that bad. People still need to actually try in order to steal your account password and whatnot.
Using one of the computers there is taking a big risk, as anyone can easily install a hardware/software keylogger and there would be know easy way for you to find out. |
Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
Yeah. I had just assumed it was his own computer.
I have never played on anybody else's computer. When I think 'internet-cafe' I'm just thinking of 'coffee-houses with Wi-Fi' of the BYOComputer variety. |

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
you should scan the computer first. if you are a regular and someone wants to still your password, pretty easy to do with basic key loggers.

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
I have done it before and never had a problem.
However, as a precaution, I use one specific site that does not hold a lot of my money. I also double check to make sure that my password is not retained by the computer. As I usually have to download the software, I just erase it off the computer when I am done with it. |
Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
Or install SnoopFree Privacy Shield, it detects keyloggers and screengrabbers. Playing at an Internet Cafe on their machines is very very risky. And 128-bit encryption is not that difficult to crack with a cluster of machines, apparently.

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
I actually meant an Internet Cafe - using their PC. Would there be a problem if I just change my password after leaving (from my home PC)?

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
If you use neteller at an internet cafe they'll usually suspend your account but it's routine you just gotta call in.
|
Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
I've used neteller at a cafe before as well as in a few other states and they have never suspended my account.
Not saying that they don't do this some of the time. But they never have with me. |

Re: Playing at an Internet Cafe
Personally I hate playing at an Internet Cafe.
For one thing it's like using your credit card from an insecure computer. And I am always nervous I would forget to log out and then someone else can pretty well use my account to their heart's content... Secondly, I just can't fully concentrate on the game when there are always people coming and going... |
