\"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (5/17) (20-40 NL)

Tonight's show is a smaller version of their usual Wednesday game, as it's 20-40 NL with a 2k min, no max buyin. Will the usual players be in the game even with slightly smaller stakes? Check out the play at www.liveatthebike.com or use this link starting at 8pm Mountain Time.

Re: \"Official\" Live at the Bike thread (5/17) (20-40 NL)

Quick question to the fellas...

I live/play locally here in Amarillo and some of the folks I play with said a couple of regulars in our 2/5 & 5/10 NL games went out to Cali. a few weeks back and destroyed the games to the tune of over $30k. Two young kids (Cody and Orlando). I didn't find out about the show until just after this supposedly transpired. Can anyone validate this? (I'm at work and won't be able to watch until the replay at 1am cst, but TIA if you guys know the answer).

Boy, did you see how far that dude put out his chips when he was thinking about calling Mo's bet (the hand where Mo had the flush draw and the kid had the King-rag for top pair). Those chips were WAY out in the middle of the pot, then he pulled them back, then he counted, then he pulled them all the way back and folded...

Mo could've been a stickler and kept them in there, right BarTuch?

I guess because I play with them all the time, while they are good, I don't see them as really fantastic players. Or maybe I'm better than I think

Thanks for the validation there, fellas. Who knew, eh?

ETA: Gonna have to get into the archives to watch...anyone know the dates they played on there? Thanks again.

Fun Fact

On this day, May 17th:
1927 Chicago Cubs beat Boston Braves, 4-3, in 22 innings

1969 Baltimore, Cleveland & Pittsburgh agree to go from NFC to the AFC in the NFL

1984 Cincinnati Reds Mario Soto throws 4 strikeouts in one inning

Isn't Russ in seat 4?

Also, they said there were only about 25 NL players (assuming at that level), and there was much division over if the game would be 10/20 20/40 or 25/50 NL

he was a solid player, however as tuch said a LAG's swings will be huge. He could win 30k one week and lose that the next with his style. He got very good cards against players who had very good cards. It wasn't like he was making tough decisions.

Tuch is spot on, esp. with Orlando. He is a nice guy and is a good family guy as well. And he is smart and can be VERY dangerous when he is catching cards. But when he's not, yes, he can be punished. Also, both of them are quite good at PLO.

Although, I do feel that the both of them have a little too much "gamboooool" in them for their own good, but mabye that's the responsible adult in me coming out

hey guys, i have a question. i've been offered to be bankrolled by a friend for 1k to play in the 1-2 NL game at a local casino. He gets 25% of profits and i pay back 75% of the loses. i'm tempted to take it b/c i've played in this game and beat it pretty consistantly. i'm in college and b/c of this i've been restricted to only online play and have hit one of the worst losing streaks ever but when i've been playing live i've done well. what do you think?

I wouldn't recommend any "pro" to quit his day job with 1000 big blinds. You need thousands a month just to live, nevermind what you need for the game. Poor bankroll management ahoy!

Not watching, but 1000BB's in LHE is plenty, as long as that is strictly your BR. If it's living expenses AND BR, you are doomed to fail.

And in NL, isn't the rule a minimum of 20 buy-in's for your BR?

O M G poor Mike. Such the nature of NL nowadays.

Poker poker it's all skill, start with the worst hand and just work up hill!

Re: Fun Fact

I think in no limit bankroll has a lot of "depends", I think the strategy of never risking more than 5% of your bankroll at any time is good minimal bankroll mgmt as its more a function of the buyin than the blinds which seems to be more appropriate

They were talking about NL -- should've specified that. AND I think it included personal expenses.

It's too little, regardless.

As far as buy-ins go, a lot depends on what your life is like.

But if you are counting on poker for 100% (or a vast majority) of your life's money, you need to have a TON saved up before you take that leap. Too many horror stories of people leaving good jobs / viable careers thinking the downswings / variance will never happen.

Oh, 100% agreed. 6 months (minimum) living expenses and then I'd think that 40 buy-in's should be sufficient BR $ as well.
