Chicago area poker - this weekend
I'm quickly discovering that I have absolutely nothing to do this weekend and haven't played live in about a dog's life, so I'd like to make it out to any of the Chicago area cardrooms this weekend. Any 2p2er's headed out there this weekend for a possible meet-up? Probably looking to arrive Saturday mid-afternoon and stay v. late.

I left my destination ambiguous in the original post because I'm open and would go to any place that people were going to be at. The Doc |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I used to be aregular at resorts they have a pretty soft 5-10 NL game, there are some good players and some donkeys that think they just won the wsop, catch those fish and fryem, i play 5-10, 10-20 limit there and they are pretty soft good luck to you
and chicago joe i am going to check out that website, dang i thought i was the only one in the chicago aread that is on 2p2 |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I'll be at Resorts Friday and Saturday night, playing 5/10 limit. Also, I don't know how high stakes you're looking to play, but Resorts runs and uncapped NL on Friday nights that (from admittadly only watching maybe 10-20 hands) looks pretty good.

The Doc [/ QUOTE ] I'll be at Potawatomi (Milwaukee) Friday and Saturday as always. 3/5 NL 600 max. Softest game and best structure in the Chicago area. If you are closer to downtown/Indiana, and you are rolled appropriately, hit the Trump (now Blue Star) 10/25NL. edit: 10/25NL @ trump/Blu* is uncapped |

Last time I was there (not too long ago) it was either 5/5 or 5/10 (players choice) NL 500 max. Edit: I just called the poker room @ Resorts and confirmed that the structure is indeed still 5/10NL 200 min/500 max. |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Anyone have any info on the 10-25 nl game at the old Trump? Looking to play next weekend and wondering if it's a good situation. I'm adequately bankrolled, but will only play if it is a weak game, and would prefer not to fight friday afternoon traffic to play in a $200 max game.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I haven't been for a couple of weeks, but they were running one table uncapped on Friday night for at least 3 weeks straight. I figured it was a regular thing, guess not.

However, they have recently started a no max NL game. Not sure of the blind structure, but it may be 10/25. They have had it on one table in the back the last few weekends. |

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
You are correct. They have been offering it as a feature game on Friday and Monday night, although the manager told me they will offer it anytime we can get enough people to sit down and play. They have also been getting some Pot Limit Omaha action going again.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
how far from the Wrigley Field area is Resorts?

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Isn't Milwaukee like 3+ hrs from Chicago? I live in the city.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
From downtown Chicago, Milwaukee is two hours if you speed all the way. If you drive the speed limit it's two and half hours to Potawatomie's garage, from downtown Chicago.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Any MS2 no limit games over 200 max are not running all the time during weekends. I would call ahead to find out what's going on.
|
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Actually, it is 91 miles from the Sears Tower to Potawatomi (according to Yahoo maps.) Depending on the time of day and the construction involved it is a 90 minute + drive from downtown Chicago. And that is driving at the legal limit.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I am a limit player, not no limit. But when I was up there this past weekend, I asked about it and was told they use a rake, not a time charge for no limit. If it is the same as their limit games, it would be 10% to a max of $4 per hand.
|
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Big Al is correct. The Potawatomi 3/5NL is a pot rake not a time rake. 10% to $4.
edit: On another note, I really hope what you guys said was correct about an uncapped NL game going at Resorts on weekends. If its the same donktacular 5/10NL players as normal, with just more chips, that would change my mind about which game is the best in the Chicago area. |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
the uncapped NL game at resorts isn't exactly the same players...but of course they will be many of the players that play the 5/10 NL because if the uncapped game isn't running, they play 5/10 NL.
In any case, from what i hear, the game runs similar to the 10/25 NL at Trump/MS2/BlueStar. Also, as stated earlier, the uncapped NL game are resorts is scheduled for Mondays and Fridays. If there are any free tables on the other days and enough interest, they will spread the game, but with the popularity of the lower limits, it's usually unlikely. |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
With the Dan Ryan being down? I haven't even tried to go since then. I used to make that drive on a regular basis. Back then it took me 1 to 1 1/2 hours (during rush) and $6 in tolls round trip.

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
Ahh, the old grounds. Trump is great if you like the smell of fish and stacks of 20 chips that literally stick together. My friend and I made the drive from the north side of chicago up to Milwaulkee 3 times a week and it was about 1 hour 20. Also, there was a 24 hour starbucks right off the highway in Kenosha that we usually hit up so I was usually driving about 15 over. Be prepared for neverending talk about fishing, hunting, and the packers. Not sure about the NL game but the limit games were always soft.

Trump is great if you like ... stacks of 20 chips that literally stick together. [/ QUOTE ] Trump broke out clean, new, reserve chips in about December or January. They did not stick together. Then, in March, those chips were replaced by new Majestic Star chips. While these chips are still relatively new, they are well on their way to the sticky stackable condition! As for an alternative to the Dan Ryan, try Lake Shore Drive to the Museum of Science of Industry, around the bend to Stoney Island and then to the Skyway. |
Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I play at Resorts quite a bit and the Ryan really hasn't been that bad (but don't tell anybody or it will be -lol)

Re: Chicago area poker - this weekend
I agree with Kevin about the Ryan. WBBM-AM 780 does a very good job on letting you know how the traffic is moving.
