I tell some guy I\'m colluding. Is this OK?
 

I had a funny experience last week playing a small stakes tourney on Pokerstars.

I don't have the HH or the chat transcript, but some time in the middle of the tournament we play this hand. Fishy limps in MP, I raise on the button with K4o, BB who has 1.5BB in total calls, and fishy folds. BB wins the pot.

After the hand fishy asks "why the raise?" "moron". I don't tap the glass. I say "BB is my buddy", "I don't want him knocked out at this stage of the tourney". Fishy jumps on me and tells me I am colluding and cheating. I'm having too much fun stirring the sh:t at this point and tell him "it's hardly cheating to help a buddy out". He threatens to tell Stars support. A third player chimes in and tells me "RoundTower in future I wouldn't mention that in public".

This went on for quite a while. I'd post the chat transcript if I had it.

Am I being a dick here or is this harmless fun?

This is the equivalent of making a joke that you have a bomb in airport security. Not cool and bound to get you in big trouble. Much safer to just not do it.

Come on, no way Stars are suspending me for this. Worst case scenario I get an email asking me to explain myself, I explain how I'm not an idiot and have never played with the guy before, and they laugh it off.

Most sites take cheating allegations seriously and don't think they would just laugh it off. If I was the other guy I would have reported you myself to cover my own ass.

The best case scenario from this behavior is that the fishy player leaves the table thinking that people are colluding. Worst case you get your account suspended. So no, not a good idea.

This was a freezeout tournament and the player would not normally leave until he had lost all his chips.

If you want to be an idiot and claim that you're cheating, it's stupid, but I see nothing wrong with it. Just don't come here whining about how much Stars' support is overreacting to your "joke" when your acccount is frozen. However, accusing an innocent player at the table of collusion is not cool at all. I would be extremely pissed if I was the BB here. Being accused of collusion is no joke. Even if he suffers no punishment from Stars, there are other people at the table who he may have to play against regularly in the future, who now think he's a colluder.

This is just bullshitting. There's no reason whatsoever to think the fish will play better against me because I said I was softplaying someone else. They're just as likely to play worse.

Getting the other guy in trouble is more of an issue. But he hasn't done anything obviously wrong. (Even if I genuinely am softplaying him, he hasn't necessarily done anything wrong). And Stars support aren't idiots, if it does go back to them it won't take them long to realise there was no cheating going on.

BS. Most fish now adays have at least some clue as how to play poker. They just dont because it isnt as fun or they lack discipline. Why anger him and see whether or not he can step up his game some? You make him pay more attention, and he will play a better game, and its not just him, now you have the ENTIRE table watching you. And so what if that isnt true, you have to admit its a possibility, the same as stars biting and banning you account for colluding. Sure very unlikely but your actions raised it to an above 0% chance, which is -EV. What exactly were you trying to accomplish with it anyway? Im sure it didnt help your poker game any either, instead of focusing you are busy blathering away in the chat window. Again -EV

Why do it? Somebody asked me a stupid question, so I gave a stupid answer. I don't play so many tables that I can't afford a few precious seconds to use the chat box. This wasn't a brag post, I don't see anything to brag about, apart from my world class play in the hand itself.
