Radiohead news

Thom Yorke is releasing an album on indie label XL on July 11. He sent the following post to members of Radiohead's fan club a few nights ago.

[ QUOTE ]
this is just a note to say that something has been kicking around in the background that i have not told you about.
its called The Eraser.
nigel produced & arranged it .
i wrote and played it.
the elements have been kicking round now for a few years and needed to be finished & i have been itching to do something like this for ages.
it was fun and quick to do.
inevitably it is more beats & electronics.
but its songs.
stanley did the cover.
yes its a record!
no its not a radiohead record.
as you know the band are now touring and writing new stuff and getting to a good space so i want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah...
this was all done with their blessing. and i don't wanna hear that word solo. doesnt sound right.
ok then thats that.

i think its out in july and im pretty certain XL are going to put it out.
love thom

They've been playing some of the songs on Thom's upcoming album during their current tour. I'll be at the 2nd MSG date if anyone else is going.

I'm very envious

I cannot get tickets for a reasonable price in my area
I've been spoiled though and seen them on 6 different tours previously (since The Bends days)

I'm looking forward to this mainly because there's so much ambiguity as to what it's gonna sound like. I look forward to leeching it before the release date.

wow i suck at getting tickets. there's like no chance at getting one at a reasonble price for the an msg show right?

Re: Radiohead news

saw them in the UK last week, their new stuff is okay but not groundbreaking. Somewhere in between Amnesiac and Thief.

They are much much more competent live than on any previous tour.

Looking forward to Thom's album. I mean, I won't use the "s" word but for god's sakes, how do we refer to it except as a lone endeavour?

no-one's referred to anything as a lone endeavour since the 1800s.

I haven't seen them for any less than about $175/$200 online. I have heard though that ticketmaster sometimes releases a limited amount of tickets the day of/day before the show. Couldn't hurt giving that a try. The Black Keys are also opening the MSG shows which is awsome.

Not really. It's like watered-down "Idioteque" remixes for half an hour. I like it okay so far, but I'm not blown away. It's a bit monotonous... not enough variety in the songwriting over the course of the record. Lyrics are also lacking.

But -- as most Yorke stuff does, I expect it to get better with repeated listens.

Re: Radiohead news

The Yorke album leaked about 2 days ago and is pretty damn good. Alot of the tracks sound like they could be Amnesiac B-Sides or something, but I'm not saying that in a bad way. Its very electronic and very catchy. I'm a big fan of the title track. Can't wait for MSG next week.

I think it sounds as much like a Radiohead album as any previous Radiohead album sounded like a Radiohead album at the time of its release.
