So my mom apparently thinks I need a makeover.

So she put me up to be on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (they're coming to Vegas for a few shows soon). They get a ton of applicants, though, so my chances are better I think if I get some support.

If your mom informed them that you are a poker author that should help. They could use the poker craze as a backdrop to your story.

I think you stand a good chance of making it on the show, Ed. Bravo has Celebrity Poker Showdown and I believe the Queer Eye guys did an episode of it. If you play up your standing in the poker world, Bravo can do a crossover thing in Vegas and incorporate your job into your makeover.

you could use a make-over....not a complete one like they usually do, but you definitely need some fashion advice and you could use a new hair style. But this is nothing your wife couldn't pull off, if she were so inclined.

But if you'd think it'd be fun and would help you sell some books, go for it. Could be a blast!

My neighbor was on Queer Eye a year or two ago and he's married with 3 kids.

He was a total mess, though.

I don't think you need a makeover. But, since you asked this sort of question, I do think you need to lose some weight.

The following advice should help if you get far enough for them to scout you, Ed:

1) thrash your house
2) don't do laundry for three weeks before they get there. Make sure you leave some weird underwear on the floor of your closet or bedroom so Carson can make his "icky" face.
3) get rid of any nice clothes you have til they are gone
4) forget any bit of culinary knowledge you might have
5) grow a unibrow to give Kyan or whatever his name is something to do
6) don't get a haircut a month before they get there.
7) invent a reason you want to do all this.
8) hide any really nice furniture you have.

There are tons more, but this is a good start.

FWIW, I just got a makeover of sorts. My wife decided I needed to dress like a "grown up" so we did a bunch of shopping. Now I look more professional, and the clothes aren't really much less comfortable than the t-shirt nike lined pants that were my outfit.

I would live in a pigpen if it weren't for Elaine. As it is, I like our place, but it could definitely use a makeover too.

It's called icthyowangatosis. It's caused by the same fungus as elephantiasis. When it flares up, I just spray tough actin' tinactin on it, and it's all good for a while.

I agree with you guys, though, that he doesn't need a makeover. I think he looks great. The problem, though, is that his image doesn't convey his success. You know? People outside of the poker world meet him and think he's just some guy. They don't even believe he wrote his books until they see his picture on the back. They look at him and think he's a college student who shops at Target, not a pro poker player who's got his act together.

He's a nerd in need of help (MIT, Microsoft programmer, etc.), he's in the zeitgeist (as you can see from his webiste/books, he is a "noted poker authority"), and he's photogenic. I agree with this. I'm going to fill out the application just because I'd love to watch you on T.V. make an ass out of yourself, but I like how you dress. You have a Weezer/They Might Be Giants quasi-nerd rockstar look to you and I think it works perfectly.
