What if an 18 year old won a WPT?

At the end of the show if either Michael or Ozzy took down the PCA (or any other 21< for that matter) how would anheuser busch get their advertising in....what would they toast with?

Don't know, but they already have dealt with this when Schlein finished second at the UB event.

Hm, forgot about that. Isn't it technically illegal to televise the consumption of alcohol? (hence why the cut to the audience clapping)

Re: What if an 18 year old won a WPT?

The WPT events that aren't in the US follow the laws set forth by the country the event is in. Typically, under 21 players can play in these events because the laws dictate 18 year olds are allowed to gamble. Likewise, 18 or younger is typically the drinking age.

Yes, and uber-conservative network executives get their panties in a bunch if someone under 21 drinks on TV (regardless of local law), unless it is an After School Special.

Re: What if an 18 year old won a WPT?

They would likely just film the final scene twice--one with beer for the international showing and one without for the US. I don't see why this is an issue, they obviously have a plan for this sort of thing.

I don't know, but when we did it I never actually took a sip of the beer (which is now budweiser...???) The second they turned off the cameras, they took away the beer and sat me down for pictures...

Spielberg would use state of the art technology to replace all beers with walkie talkies.

I'd guess that any venue where 18 year-olds can gamble, they can also drink.

in the cardplayer updates during the aruba event it said that the wpt people wouldn't let sdouble have a beer.

what is the legal drinking age in aruba? i thought it was 18. if the producers or the good people at budweiser or whoever are uncomfortable or don't think it's right to let someone who's under 21 be advertised drinking beer in america, then people who are under 21 shouldn't be let into certain wpt events anyway.

This wouldn't be a problem so much except for the fact that drunk drivers die and kill people. Seeing as only those 21 and up can purchase alchohol, I could only imagine how many more deaths would occur on US highways if 18 year old, 19 year old and 20 year olds were allowed to purchase and consume alchohol.

People (16-20 year olds, and over) talking on their cell phones while driving are getting bad enough.

Imagine how many fewer deaths there would be if we raised the drinking age to 30. Or 40. Hell, let's make it 60, since anyone that old already drives like crap.

Nope. For example, 18 year-olds can gamble at Turning Stone in New York, but they can't drink.

I can't drink at Turning Stone and I'm 54.

OK, smarta$$ answers from me aside, the WPT venures that allow 18 yo players are offshore, and I'm pretty sure the drinking age isn't 21.

I don't know if it's still like this, but Mississippi's drinking age used to be "21 or active military."

You don't need to imagine.
As you may have noticed, there are already plenty of 18, 19 and 20 year-old drinking alcohol anyway and it really has very little to do with whether or not they are technically 'allowed' to purchase and consume it.

Allowing them to drink would not change much regarding the drunk-driving statistics.
It is my opinion that it could, in fact, lead to even safer roads by not forcing under-21 drinkers to attempt to doconsume their alcohol covertly.

18-year-olds are adult enough. And they can go to war.
And they are off at college.

Prohibition is stupid.
And the rest of the world seems to do just fine with an under-21 drinking age (and is laughing at our hypocricy...and I don't blame them).

Right, 18 is not the age people need to be to gamble. That's why you have 18 year olds buying lottos. The reason you have to be 21 to get into most casinos is that casinos serve alcohol, not because they facilitate gambling.

i've heard that a lot of states have a legal gambling age of 18 but minors can't enter a casino that serves alcohol until they are 21 because of liquor laws.

here in oklahoma most casinos are 18+, but there are a few that are 21+ that serve alcohol. i dealt poker last summer at a casino that is 18+ (i was 19) and they had a full service bar all day long.

There are casinos in Seattle that serve alcohol, but are only 18+. You're allowed to drink at the tables, too.

PartyPoker claims that the WPT requires all players to be at least 21, thus only those 21+ can play in the PP million event. Can someone explain this?

Not everybody drinks anyway....last WPT event I watched, I noticed that one of the final 2 players didn't take a drink. (Don't remember who, though)

i remember seeing that partypoker said you MUST be 21 to enter the satellites for the ppm and you have to be 21 for all wpt events last year for 2005 ppm.

i thought the wpt might have changed the rules to be 21+ to enter events, but apparently party are just being nazis and don't want anyone under 21 to play since UB and stars still have an 18+ age limit.

Re: What if an 18 year old won a WPT?

& the winner of a WPT-event wins his entry to the WPT-main event , 25 000$ buy in . if he's 18 , he obviously cant play it since the event is in Vegas . So what eould happen :

a- Steve Lipscomb put the 25k$ in his pocket
b- A stack is put in post&fold
c- They pay the guy 25 000$ in cash
d- He can play the WPT-main event the 1st year he'll be 21yo .
e- He can send his mother/father/legal tutor play for him .
f- They will provide him fake ID before the main event.

None of the above. Runner-up gets the seat, just as if the winner had a seat already.
