Intense pain in my arm...
I recently started lifting with Surfinillini; I lifted for the first time in a few years yesterday.
We did back, and did many exercises, like reverse flys and other back related things. Today, my right arm cannot extend the whole way, and my left one cannot extend more than halfway before I encounter intense pain. What should I do to alleviate the pain and get my arms straight? The pain is in the tendons between my forearm and bicep, not in my elbow but on top of it. |

I don't know of any remedies, but it usually goes away after a couple days. |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
You obviously have been masturbating too much. Or possibly too little.

Re: Intense pain in my arm...
drinking lots of water is the best way to get rid of soreness that I know of, but I don't know what's wrong with you, you seem to be pretty [censored] up. it may be a few days befor eyou return to normal.

Re: Intense pain in my arm...
this is a result of not lifting in years, and then exerting yourself too much in a short period of time.
you must crawl before you can walk. it wont go away, you've got a ton of lactic acid built up in your muscles that will dissipate over the next week. i reccomend stretching it in the mean time. it will hurt like hell, but it's all you can do, really. also, next time try and pace yourself. lifting weights is a marathon, not a sprint. |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
Nation,
Take it easy for a week until all the soreness is gone. Try alternating hot and cold packs, or try a contrast bath/shower (hot water for a few minutes, then dunk yourself in ice cold water for a minute). I suggest you take your first few workouts a bit easy because the DOMS can be overwhelming and discouraging. And don't work your muscles to total failure. |

nation,
rest and stretch. |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
Don't just jump into a tough workout, you have to gradually work yourself into an intense routine
|
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
This is standard. By the time you work that part of your body again (should be in 3 days), you'll be ready to go.

Re: Intense pain in my arm...
I like to jump into things hardcore; I disklike having to work up to something...this is going to be hard.
I'm assuming advil and the like will help with the lactic acid? |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
If you just started lifting, your muscles/tendons are not use to the strain...so they are going to ache. Advil should be fine. It will probably hurt for about 2 weeks...but don't let this discourage you. After that, you will recover much quicker and will no longer hurt for days after a workout. I assume you are doing chest/triceps, biceps/back, legs/shoulders or some kind of routine like that?

Re: Intense pain in my arm...
Yeah, 4 days a week, I think exactly like that.

[/ QUOTE ] The lactic acid is long gone by now. The pain is from the tiny tears in the muscle fibers. This will take time to heal. Alternating ice and warm should help, as will an anti-inflammatory like advil. |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
Sounds like you worked out wayyyy too hard.
If you haven't worked out in years, you need to do like 2 LIGHT sets of each exercise. And I mean LIGHT. It should take you a good 2 weeks before you get to the point where you can do 3 pretty strenuous sets of each exercise. I know, because this same thing happened to me when I was like 18. I went to visit a buddy and his friend in Alabama and they wanted to go hit the gym so I was all for it (had never really worked out regularly). Went there, tried to be macho and do everything they did. Next day = me walking around looking like Sup Bro, with the inability to extend my arms due to severe soreness. |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
I take full responsibility
not sure what you did post-workout for recovery but I usually consume a large glass of milk with some protein powder to repair the muscles we worked... |
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
heart attack?

Re: Intense pain in my arm...
you've been wackin' it too much
|
Re: Intense pain in my arm...
UPDATE: My arm still hurts but I'm able to extend it further. Surfinillini called me to say that he was tired and didn't want to work out, but I manned up and convinced him to go.
