Jamie Gold Responds to $12 M WSOP Lawsuit

Here's the link to Cardplayer's column. Not much detail. Does anybody have access to the full statement.

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_news...lass=PokerNews

Doesn't give any details concerning the dispute.

6 Mil maybe just to much money to part with.

Now it's making sense why Jamie considered throwing it to avoid all the publicity.

He was trying to avoid having to own up to his promise and getting hammered in the media.

I wonder if he'll ever be able to live this down.

Sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. The guy who filed the lawsuit said that they agreed to split any winnings. If Gold finished 2nd and won $6 million, the other guy would have sued for $3 million.

When I read stuff like that I start thinking English is my second language. Please, somebody tell me what the hell that means.

That's true, but at that point he wouldn't be the infamous ME champ with this dark cloud hanging over him. He'd be the 2nd place finisher and who ever remembers them?

WTF?

A dark cloud is worth $6M to you?

No, but from this point forward he'll be famous for trying to screw this guy out of 6m instead of being famous for winning the ME.

This once in a lifetime event is now forever tarnished for him.

I've said my peace on this topic.

From the ealier CP article:

Leyser claims the breach of their contract has caused and will continue to cause him irreparable harm. He’s also stated publicly, “if Gold obtains the total sum of the winnings, Leyser will suffer further irreparable harm.”

Some poster claimed to know this guy and described him as a stand-up guy. Sounds like a guy after a quick buck (6 million in fact).

Legality of any agreement aside, perhaps the two decided to split the winnings, say $20-40k if Gold actually made it into the money, if the dude helped Gold find celebrities to endorse Bodog.

Nice little earner, no problems there.

But Gold actually made it BIG. How on Earth does this justify a $6M payday?

If this is how it went, it's pure greed and makes me feel pretty sick.

I also don't understand how the casino can be forced to withold payment (tho it sounds like Gold hasn't even asked for the cheque yet).
