Don't be so quick to cancel. This will rapidly change back to "now shipping". And it's cheaper from Amazon than from ConJelCo. (ConJelCo does not compete against its retailers.)

Thanks I am happy people are reading it! And I am sure we will get a lot of questions later. I also should thank David Sklansky for his reveiw and quote on the back of the book.

Yes, the odds are $30 to win $105. As you pointed out, it doesn't change the conclusion. I hope there are too many of these.

Hi Bill:

I've only read the first 60 pages, so I don't have any comments on the material yet. But it is extremely well written.

Best wishes,
Mason

And I'm in the same boat regarding preordering from Conjelco and not having received it yet. Does Conjelco notify when they ship on preorders?

I got my copy on Weds. and have been slowly working my way through it. I am happy to say that it is very well written in clean, straight-forward prose. I was more than a little relieved, because I've sat at poker tables where Bill and Jerrod were discussing math, and couldn't understand a word they were saying.

Re: The Mathematics of Poker

Top book. Still thinking about how to express why.
I have no idea if it will be a popular book but I feel I will be rereading it constantly for months. Some ideas for building good models for simulations, great demonstrations of the counter-intuitive nature of a lot of game decisions, and a nice framework to start thinking about poker strategies from a 'scientific' viewpoint.
I've only skimmed it tho

Hey Guys, just recieved my copy of Mathematics of Poker, Not a math geek, although I could handle some of the equations. Just wondering, could someone recommend a calculator which would cover all of the various functions and equations outlined in the book. (My thoughts were any calculator which could handle Algebra I, II, Trig Functions. etc. I want to hammer away at the equations to fully understand the mathematical implications: Could the Authors offer a Recommendation in this area. P.S. Fantastic Book, I hope it increases all our collective abilites on the tables.

I believe almost any graphing calculator should be able to handle Algebra I, Algebra II, and trigonometry. I personally like the TI-85, but you might just want to go to an office store (e.g., Staples) or a department store and check out what they have.

If you download xp power toys (I believe I got mine on cnet.com, but googling for it should find it - it's freeware), there's a pretty good calculator that comes with it that I use when I don't feel like whipping out my 85, or if I'm doing homework and need multiple calculators for some reason.

Re: The Mathematics of Poker

Just got the book 5 minutes ago, and I'd like to say that I've never been as excited to delve into a poker book as I am to get into this one.

To be honest, I was a bit skeptical that it was going to deliver because other books that have been hyped as "mathematical" approaches to the game (Theory of Poker) fell far short of expectations. But this looks like the real deal, hopefully I'm not disappointed.

Incidentally, I wouldn't want to scare somebody without a strong mathematical background. The equations in the book like intimidating, but most of them are just algebra with a couple natural logs thrown in there. I wouldn't think you'd need a strong mathematical background (to be honest, mine's not that great itself) to get through the book.

Anybody who likes this game-theoretic approach to the game should also check out the stuff from the University of Alberta.
