Re: Some notes on notes

Best post I ever read here, then again, i'm only been reading this for a month.. I just can't find the post where Sunshine's numbers for classifying players are listed? (I found the thread, but just can't find the exact numbers)

Tx bisonbison! Time to put pokertracker to use!

I keep only one gametime window open at a time, because I found that XP kept collapsing the program groups.

i hate that "feature".

- right click any open space on the task-bar
- click "properties"
- uncheck "group similar taskbar buttons"

Re: Some notes on notes

I'm in agreememt with everyone else that this new addition to PT is amazing. And thanks bison for putting together a standard list of classifications, I'm sure we'll all be referring to players as dice, eagles, ? etc before too long.

Im not sure if this would be possible but I was thinking that it would be helpful if PT could be set up to leave a line in the player notes after it assigns the icon, like the user defined icon name or something. These could be exported to party/empire... and then we'd have a quick easy reference right there at the table without having to look up each player and set up game time windows. Again, dont know if this would be possible, but I wouldnt put anything past Pat at this point. Anyway, just curious to see what you guys think.

"Icon Description" in advanced notes export, is this what you're looking for?

Oh...so it already exists.

And I thought I had such a great idea, should have figured that someone else would have thought of that one. Thanks

I'd like to see PokerTracker make friends with one or more of the poker sites and end up with some hooks to allow PT to request live gametime window updates. My ISP gets twitchy about repeated emails coming in with the same subject from the same sender so after half an hour the automatic request feature more or less stops working for me

First, great post and info. I need to incorporate some of this additional info into my exports.

Second, depressing post. I've been struggling at 3/6 and see myself in one of your categories. Appropriately it is the "frown". I suspect that if I've got 30 hands with you, this is my icon. hmpf.

Re: Some notes on notes

First off, great post Bison! I have a question, though. How do you separate full games from shorthanded games? Obviously, the stats will be a bit skewed if I've played both full and short games with a player. Do you know if there is any way to exclude all stats from games where there are less than a certain number of players?

Re: Some notes on notes

You can tell the export or the rater to only use stats from certain games. To have 2 different ratings, I think you'd have to set up 2 databases.

MicroBob 08-17-2004 08:18 PM

Re: Some notes on notes

i recently added a post to thge poker-tracker 'suggestions' forum that it would be VERY nice to have a #-of-players filter for the notes-export.

i also mentioned tht i would like a #-of-players filter for the preferences page.
the #-of-players filter on the general tab is only at the bottom part (the known hands). if i'm looking at a specific opponent's stats on the general-tab it still shows his VPIP for hands when we were 3-handed and 10-handed and 7-handed, etc.
a real pain.

anyway...go to the ptracker suggestions forum and second my motion if you like.

on my notes i had the numbers for SF and SFNB (see-flop not a blind). if these numbers are reasonably close to the VPIP then most of my hands against him are full-table. if the discrepency is significant then he saw more hands in the blind....meaning probably at a short-table where he gets the blind more frequently.

it's not a perfect system....but it helps me sort out all the VPIP-45 guys.
is this guy really a VPIP-45?? or a guy that i played a bunch of hands with 3-handed??

i've also thought of 2 different data-bases.....but that won't work as much for me.
sometimes i'll join a 4-handed table and stay on it when it fills-up to 10-handed.
these are all hands on the same tables and the opponents that were with me from beginnig to end are going to have rather tainted VPIP and PFR stats....and i don't see how a seperate database can help this situation very much.

Dude!!!! The pokertracker autorating kicks ASS!!! I've got it running right now... It updated 319 players.

My rating is "Slightly Loose Aggressive-Aggressive" because my VP$IP is 21.40. Not quite low enough to get me counted as tight.

Keep in mind Bison's reccomendations are just that - reccomendations. I think his strategy is very sound, but I have already started to tweek it for the most optimal results. I have quite a few players who I have seem 100+ hands from who are not rated because they fall out of the Bison-Zone. I'm continuing to tweek so this doesn't happen!

When you're looking for a table, how do you find one with the most fishies? Do you just have to pick a table and manually check PT for their profiles, or is there some other easier way that I'm missing?

Re: Some notes on notes

I too love the new AutoRate. This feature has done the most to inspire my play since I bought my first Sklansky book.

I never took the time to break down the notes of the other players, and used PT to mainly evaluate my own results. This, along with the advanced export, has actually improved my play at the table b/c I don't fear an overpair as much when I see the LA-A bet into my KK with an A on the board.

I'm still listed as a Rock according to Bison's stats, because I just can't bring myself to PFR the KJs, QJs, or JTs. Oh well, at least I finally know where I stand.

Best of all, as it was grading the 400+ other players, at least 70% of them were classified as fish. LOVE IT!!!

Alright, so given that I've turned grouping off, is there any way to allow you to move the application windows within the taskbar itself? So that I could, say, keep all the tables I'm playing together and always put outlook last even if I open up a new app?

not w/o a google or download.com search. a quick one on download resulted in something called the "taskbar organizer".

Re: Some notes on notes

Bison...

Can you post and example set of notes on a player that you have for party?

I export my notes, and they are still truncated. I'm just wondering how you get so much information in 86 or 87 characters.

bisonbison 08-18-2004 03:18 PM

Re: Some notes on notes

See the first post on shorthand. The best plan is to make the notes in PT itself and never import or it'll get confused.

Re: Some notes on notes

Yeah... saw that...

My problem is that my notes are full from the autonotes from pokertracker. I can't fit any more characters in there.

I guess I'm exporting way too much information in my notes.

I was in the same boat -- spoiled by the long notes at PokerStars. Now that PP has limited notes to 87 chars or something, it's a pain. I made the mistake of exporting notes that were too long and then PT didn't recognize them when I imported them in, and I ended up junking up my DB.

The only fields I auto-export now are hands played, VP$IP and River Folds.

Anyone want to share DB's. My wife and I play .50-1.00 on Paradise and Party. Looking to swap DB's with other 2+2's to expand player autorate feature. PM me if you are interested. Would like to get a small group together who regularly swaps DB's.

I think that would actually be a good thing. It's basically like locking your doors -- it doesn't make you inpregnable, but it does encourage people to look elsewhere for easier pickings...

Please keep any attempts to share databases out of my threads. I don't like it and I will poop on it if it continues to be brought up.

As for the bison thing. No, this is the first I've ever heard of it.

Re: Some notes on notes

I tried to implement some of these ideas to a note export and have a question....It sounds like your icons are being exported but mine did not. The icon description (rock, fishy....) is an exportable item but not the icon itself as far as I can see. I may not have the lastest patch, is that the prob? Also, does the icon show up instead of the yellow "sticky note" on the player name or is the icon within the note text?

Thanks.

bisonbison 08-19-2004 04:42 PM

Re: Some notes on notes

No, the icon itself is just for pokertracker. You have to change the icon labels and export them. That's the 4-5 character abbreviation listed in the first post:

fish icon name is LP-P, and if you export the description, it shows up as LP-P in your notes.

SofaCoach 08-19-2004 04:51 PM

Re: Some notes on notes

Thanks. The icon would be nice but the description is still good. I had been exporting notes on all players with 40+ hands, now based on this post I've started with labeling 3 statistical groups, fishes, rocks, and good players. I will add more sub-groups in time. Thanks for the good idea and info.
