Re: L to the C
Cool Sossman, I didn't know you were there. Were you the guy who folded AA on the flop, or went bust with 33.
|
Re: L to the C
I'm thinking of heading to Bay 101 tonight, if anyone wants to meet up let me know. I usually play $20/40 but this is just for fun so I'll play whatever limit and/or game you are (NO PAN!).

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
Who's gonna be at LC tonight?

Re: L to the C
I'm the big Jewish buffoon and I'll be tagging along with this infamous, bored on sundays, Kablasian (black and asian) coalition starter
|
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I'll be there.
|
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I might go to Bay 101 tonight to check out the Midnight tournament. There's even a small chance I might buy-in.

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
What's the rake like at Lucky Chances? I will be in San Fran for a course in 10 days. I play 3/6-4/8 mostly live so far. Are those games any good there? I might play 6/12 if it was my only option.
I am still trying to guage my skill level for B&M relative to online. |
Owned at LC : (
I got stuck $200 at the 1-1-2 NL tonight at lucky chances. After a couple bad beats I donated all my progress...my last hand was aces..they got cracked...I didnt win a rack : (

Going to be in Downtown SF for the weekend of the 29th. Which card room is the most convenient via Public Transit. If there is a line from SFO, I might head to the card room first before heading downtown?

[/ QUOTE ] Two choices from the airport: 1) Take BART south to Millbrae (five minutes), transfer to Caltrain, north a single stop to San Bruno (five minutes), walk one block north to Artichoke Joe's 2) Take BART north to Colma (dunno time, check http://bart.gov), walk a quarter-mile or so to Lucky Chances. I take Caltrain to AJ's all the time, but if you're up for it I don't think anyone would dispute that LC is a much nicer cardroom. Late edit: Once you're in SF, BART south to Colma (for LC) or Caltrain south to San Bruno (for AJs). |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I left stuck a grand at the 10/10/20. Not really any big hands or anything, mostly just got blinded off. Haven't been that card dead in a long time. I'm going to go back friday though.
I tried looking for a 'jewish' guy but had no luck. We need to figure out a good way to spot each other. |

[/ QUOTE ] If you don't feel like walking, LC sends a shuttle to the Colma bart station every half hour (slightly after :00 and :30) to pick up playahs. They pick up right in front of the station in the back of the taxi pick-up area. However, their van will only fit 9 passengers at a time, but they will come back if they can't get everyone in one trip. White van with LC logo on the side. |
some time in LA
I spent a couple days in LA and got a chance to play at hollywood park Casino... it seemed like they had a lot more limits than most places in the bay area. It was a good trip all in all. Some times it's fun to get away from the local cardrooms.

California Grand Casino
I just went to Cal grand casino saturday night and they have the most insane blind structure for 3/6. 2-2-3...so each round of hands is basically $9. Seems like a -EV game for a tight player over a long period of time...but good for a quick score.

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
Anyone going to the bay 101 midnight tourney tonight? I've never played spread limit before, but looking at the limits, it looks like it's virtually NL. Any pointers on how play adjusts with this v. NL? Thinking of going with a friend. How early should we be there and any newbie tips? (I really have little/no experience with B&M play, only played limit twice ever in a casino). :P
|
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
Sorry, but you already missed it. The midnight tournament is at 12:45 Thursday morning. They also have one at 12:45 Monday morning as well.

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
shucks.
well for future reference, the correct move here is to rebuy immediately, is that right? I haven't played any rebuy tournies before. |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I haven't played in one of these either but you're right - the spread is so great that this is virtually NL; no adjustments need be made. I think that it is set up that way due to city regulations allowing only a set number (1? 2?) NL tournaments during the year, and the spread limit nature exploits a loophole.

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I played in this last sunday. The play there is HORRIBLE!
I had one guy at my tbale who would continually go all in pre flop with garbage like 85o and 54o. With regards to the rebuy, I usually wait a bit to rebuy. I use it kind of like an insurance policy instead of rebuying right away. If my original stack gets below about 50% then I will rebuy also. Overall if you play a tight aggresive game then you should have no trouble making money off these idiots. Last year I played in over 30 of these tournies and seemed to cash in at least 1/3 of them as well as a 2nd place finish. I highly reccomend anybody playing in this game as long as you can stay up until 5am on a work night. |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
It's nice to see no one ventures as far east as Tracy. I get the whole cardroom to myself. Yeah, all three tables.
I've shot a supbro? across the table once or twice when I suspected a strange villian might be one of us, but luckily, haven't run into any 2+2ers out here. No blinds. $4 on the button. Jackpot is usually between 10-15k. Best kept low limit fishing hole secret this side of the Altamont. PM me if anyone gets out this way. Onaflag......... |
Garden City or Bay 101 Friday 7/29
I'm tempted to go try it out (never played at either before but I'm local). Bankroll's no prob but I'm a NL SNG player so just bringing mostly common sense and light reading from SSHE to the table. Is 2/4 just as bad as 3/6 so I should stick with 3/6 to minimize the rake impact? I read on the poker wiki someone recommended that past 11pm on Fri/Sat at Garden City is ripe. Any other thoughts/recommendations for the immediate area (or which is favorable between the two)?

Any other thoughts/recommendations for the immediate area (or which is favorable between the two)? [/ QUOTE ] It must be very hard to beat the 2/4 game when they're taking 1BB out of every flopped pot. The play at either room will fit the SSHE style up until at least 6/12, usually 8/16 and often 20/40 as well. It would still make sense to start at 3/6 to get a feel for a live limit game and you should know pretty quickly how you stack up against the competition. If/when comfortable, you might want to consider giving a higher limit a shot if bankroll allows. Bay101 is newer and more spacious than Garden City. The games at either should be about the same; they are ripe pretty much 24/7. You'll need to play Bay101 once you progress past 20/40, though. Good luck! |
Re: Garden City or Bay 101 Friday 7/29
I played the Bay101 6-12 game lastnight. I got there about 7pm and had to wait about 30 minutes for a seat. Some people had their names up for 3-6 for hours, they were saying, and still couldn't get a seat. 6-12 was typical SSH. Many flops had 6 players and some showdowns were multiway. There were periods of tightness, but it never lasted very long.
I faired decently over 10 hours of play but ended down 15BB. I couldn't hit a set or complete a flush/straight to save my life. Didn't matter too much though because you get paid off with the smaller pots to keep your head above water. All it would have taken is one or two flushes to complete (and not get aces cracked twice) to have made it a very profitable night. Onaflag........... PS...I was the fat red haired goateed guy with the blond ponytail on table 33 if anyone was around......... |
AJ\'s saturday
Just as a word of warning to some of the underaged. I was carded at Artichoke Joe's Saturday (Im 27 and dont get carded at bars often). This was the first time this has happened there in about a dozen trips. I was going to go to Bay 101 but I didnt know if the race would have traffic jammed in San Jose. Maybe next week.

PLO8 home game in the fall...?
Hey, there's four of us so far who play PLO8 online regularly (me, Gergery, emptyshell, and another guy who's posting name i don't remember) who are planning to round up a home game for some PLO8 late Aug/early Sept. A "dead game" we're trying to bring back to life.
Just trying to get a feel for interest at this point, drop me a PM if you want more info as we get this together... will probably go down in the East Bay. |

I'm currently in LA but I'll be coming up north to go to school in Davis in Sep, which means no more Commerce Where's the best place up there to play 40/80 - 100/200? [/ QUOTE ] I didn't read the whole thread, but it seems from the few replies on the first page or two that LA has much better game selection than the Bay area? I don't know anything about the live poker offered in these areas, but am also interested in where you can play higher limits live. Nigel |

I'm gonna be at Lucky Chances this evening, anyone else interested?

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
Hey so I was going to San Pablo tomorrow afternoon to catch the weekenders. It's my 3rd time there (5th time to a B&M poker room) and I still haven't figured out how much I should buy in with. I've always done 50 times the big bet online, but $300 in chips in person takes a whole lot of room I have quickly found out... Instead I've just bought in with $200, but does that sound too small (33.3 times the big bet)?
Also as you guys might know their 3/6 game has a $2 SB and $2 button in addition to the $3 BB. Weird, but I'm guessing they do that because of their $3 rake + $1 jackpot drop, to keep people from wanting to chop the pot preflop perhaps? |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
The Capitol Casino Club in Sacramento is a first class cardroom. 9/18 with a half kill is the highest limit though. JC Tran is from Sac and he plays there when his is in town. Welcome to the area.

Re: Bay Area players Unite!
The clarion call for Bay Area players goes out... but alas no response from one of our NorCal heroes... EastBay.

I would have to think that if everyone at the table is buying in for a rack or less you are going to look strange buying in for 2 or 3 racks Then again I like to fly under the radar |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
Found out today that CSP takes the drop even without a flop, so chopping is out of the question.
The 6/12 uses $2 chips, 1 chip SB and 1 chip on the button, $4 drop. They just installed slot machines, so the place is a madhouse. |
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
i live 5 blocks from chances, havnt been going to much lately due to a horrible down swing thats been tearing me apart, but ill usually play a tourny there or 1,1,2. although that game is about the same as playing 3-6 so sometimes very profitable and all the time very frustrating.
|
Re: Bay Area players Unite!
I just like having a lot of chips so I don't worry if I am $60 down because of some bad beats. I found when I have more, then I'm less likely to go on tilt, so I can just go back to playing the cards and not any different because I just lost 60 bucks.
Does that make any sence? |
Casino San Pablo NL game
Been loving this game recently... Any 2+2ers playing in it that I missed?
