I'd actually nominate Dr. Jerry Hathaway from the same movie. William Atherton also played the guy on the airplane in Die Hard...and he should also be recognized as a grade-A a-hole.

[/ QUOTE ]

And Walter Peck, the EPA guy who wanted to shut down the Ghostbusters. Did Atherton ever play a decent guy?

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think so. Definitely Lifetime Achievement in Being an A-Hole award for him. He is great.

Give me a couple of minutes...I'll think of more.

[/ QUOTE ]

Isn't he also the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off? I agree, he plays a great douche.

How about the creepy deputy guy in The Green Mile? Obviously the guy on death row in that movie as well.

Actually no, that's Jeffrey Jones. Atherton would have been fine in that role though.

Yeah, I didn't know this:

"Jeffrey Jones, best known as vengeful principal Ed Rooney in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, has pleaded no contest to a felony charge of hiring a teenage boy for an X-rated photo shoot. "

Weirdest part of the article for me -

"The judge also barred Jones from possessing kiddie porn and advised him to notify his parole officer if he plans to travel outside California."

Ummm...aren't we all barred from possessing kiddie porn?

The Sugarland Express

Spielburg's first feature (and for those who are gonna say that was Duel, that was a TV movie that was released as a feature overseas).

Atherton plays a guy who gets busted out of jail by his wife (Goldie Hawn) so they can go get their child who was put into a foster home. The whole movie is a chase. Very moving at the end. Atherton is actually the "good" guy.

NEIDERMEYER!!!!! Classic a-hole. Re-enacted in Twisted Sister videos (WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE?") and on Seinfeld as 'The Maestro'.

As for Kent from Real Genius, he wasn't even number one in that film (and it may not have been the biggest a-hole performance of his career. See The Bachelor Party). William Atherton (The professor, also a huge a-hole in the Die Hard trilogy and Ghostbusters II) may be the greatest a-hole of them all. Guess it all depends on definition.

He doesn't have a choice. Vader and his minions are holding his entire cloud city ransom and he chooses the lesser evil. Then he turns around and rescues Luke and Han from Jabba the Hutt.

Note. I was too young to see Empire Strikes Back when it came out. When Return of the Jedi came out I watched all three in a triple feature, so the shock of Lando's betrayal didn't get to fester within me for more than forty-five minutes or so, which might explain my lack of hatred towards our favorite malt-liquor spokesman.

Let's not forget he did bust Leia and Chewie out of Cloud City, then infiltrated Jabba's palace. He also blew up the second Death Star with some chubby fish-looking dude as his co-pilot. Nah...a true A-hole would never do that.

As for the Star Wars trilogy...Sebulba was a pretty big a-hole. And sandpeople.
