Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
Some of the play by play on that show was fantastic. I remember getting goosebumps listening to Bart when he went over the top. Even though Dave thought his [censored] didnt stink those 2 were excellent at making the show exciting and interesting. I miss the old days of LATB.

Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I will definitely miss LATB. It improved my game and there were some entertaining moments along the way.
It was great to watch C. Mike either scorch the table or go on crazy tilt. My favorite hand will be when C. Mike called off his stack with 32 thinking he had trips and Jason Katsutani wins the pot with K- high. |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I meant Johnnie. Wishful thinking.

Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
Has there been anything in the way of an official announcement regarding the show's future of lack thereof? I have not heard anything excpet what I've read here on these forums. I was at the Bike Friday night and they've completely dismantled the space they used for the show, so evidently they have made a decision but don't even have the common courtesy to let the paying subscribers know. This is a real cynical KITN to all the fans of the show. They charged for the month of April, gave us no product and no explanation. I hope the Commerce or some other casino tries something similar and has great success with if just so the rotten L@TB scumbags can see for themselves what lame turds they truely are.

[/ QUOTE ] lol..I was at the Bike yesterday and noticed how they dismantled that section. Speaking with the floor, they plan on extending the plaza. Tearing out those walls adds much more revenue than the show could have produced I imagine. Seems to be geared towards "improving" Legends. I sill think it would be cool to keep/relocate the set as a press arena during Legends or other special events. -normaljoe |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I tried accessing the archives today and I'm having no luck....Looks like they pulled the plug on that too.
With their customer service, its no wonder they didn't succeed. |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I have the same...I'm glad they [censored] charged us 14.95 and then didnt give us a month of archives...

Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I sent them an email let me know if any of you guys hear any information about a partial refund or did we just get screwed?

They didn't provide any services so if they don't credit your card back then call the CC company and dispute the charges. Can anyone else confirm the archives are gone? I was thinking to sign back up and watch a few. |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I'm sad to see it go, I enjoyed watching the big games, and I played on the show one time before it went under. Big thanks to Bart and Dave for putting in the time and making the show what it was, and anyone else behind the scenes who I missed. Bart I'm sure if you continue on the path you will land a job in poker broadcasting like Dave, you have the talent.
That being said, live at the bike as a business is a great example of how not to run a subscription service. Their site was confusing and annoying to navigate, their communication with subscribers was basically non-existent and unacceptable. Even now as they go out of business they don't feel obliged to make a simple announcement or even send out an email to their paying subscribers. Absolutely shameful. Perhaps the worst mistake they made was not pursuing advertising $$ or other ways to increase revenue to make the show viable, because obviously they were not making enough to keep it alive. I hope at least they put the best archived shows on a DVD and sell it |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
It failed because the concept was flawed. The commentary consisted of constant (and repetitive) poker lessons given by two unknown players. The talk was non-stop and frequently argumentative. It did not help that it was the same cast of players night after night.
High Stakes poker has good commentators - a witty and knowledgeable color man and a play by play guy who does not pretend to know anything. Poker after dark has a pretty good format too, with very little commentating. Both shows make the poker game the star of the show rather than the commentators. Both shows mic the players so you can hear what they are saying. |

When did Bart resign?

It's just plain boring to watch full ring NL night after night. |

[/ QUOTE ] I have been watching the archives every day. I am watching them right now as I am looking at the 2+2 forum. I sent an email to LATB and received a response saying they will make an announcement as soon as they decide what to do with the archives. They will probably offer them at a reduced price. |

[/ QUOTE ] No we didn't get screwed, I am watching the archives now and have been watching them every day. I also sent an email to LATB and received a response within 24 hours. To summarize the email, they will be making a general announcement once the details are finalized as to what will happen to the live broadcast, the archives, and the subscriptions. It's likely that they will drop the price for archives-only service. I got this info about five days ago. |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
yea the archives were just down last night I tried them again this morning and they are back up.

Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
put the best archived showes on dvd and ship it to us ripped off subscribers would be would be the only thing that could redeem there shameful customer service. i think we have already paid enough to cover this.

Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
I have fond memories of watching LATB this past summer when I had more free time...
I think the first night I discovered it I posted in the thread "god these commentators are awful" and was quite surprised to hear my post read a few minutes later. also watching a big hand go down and Bart getting all excited followed but a string of 10 posts: "Bartgasm!" "awesome Bartgasm!" "best Bartgasm in awhile". the show went downhill for me when after watching half an ep I hopped in my car and drove up to the Bike to play some and found that Bart was much less attractive in person. |

The commentary, at least when it was Dave and Bart every night, was top notch. I'd take those two over AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan any day of the week. I'm not sure how business was going for LATB after they changed the show to subscription only, but when they were showing 10-20nl every night with the same cast and characters it was my favorite time watching LATB. When they switched it to predominantly 5/10 with unknown players and the absence of Dave is when the show went downhill, for me. The reason that HSP and PAD are successful has more to do with super high stakes and tables full of poker superstars than the commentating. Not to mention the shows are on popular tv networks. People who complained about paying $15 a month to watch the show and access the archives are pathetic. It was well worth the money and it was worth it just to support the show. It's a measly 15 dollars for christ sake, deal with it. |

LOL @ everyone having expert commentary on why the show died. |

It truly astounds me how many 2+2ers are so intuitive, business minded, tech savvy and omnipotent [/ QUOTE ] Very badly written, Barry, but I think I know what you meant. For the record I forgot more business savvy than anyone at the Bike ever had before breakfast this morning. In terms of a true comparrison, the way the Bike has treated its customers since the self-destruction of the web cast ranks right up there with the decisions made by the morons at Coke when they decided to change the flavor of the world's most popular softdrink. There may be people less capable of operating a broadcasting enterprise in the universe, somewhere, but as yet they have not surfaced. I have more than an inkling of what it took to run that show. The answer? Not a hell of a lot. Not a lot of money, at least not by my standards. Not a lot of tallent, with the odd exception. And not much effort. I'm sure people like Bart and some of the employees behind the scenes put work into it, but I'm guessing they did it on a shoestring. There would be little use in considering any of the posters here omnipotent since David Sklansky did not post a reply. I wish he would. Watching the same ten gits dry heaving their way through bankrollls day after day was not good television, but occassionally there was a gem and those brief moments were what made the monthly vig worthwhile. For example, anytime real cash game pros like Barry Greenstein or Gabe Thaylor were in the game, it elevated the enetertainment value considerably. It's too bad Mike got his lunch eaten in the dying moments of the program and then the show got flushed. It would have been cool watching his mom take back the keys to the Bentley. Thanks for the insight on how much sweat and blood went into Live at the Bike. I'm sure the people who actually tried to make it work, who hopefully were not booted to the side like another action addict with a bad credit line, are appreciative of your support. We who paid the bills, however, think it may have been run by less-than-thoughtful business people. I mean congratulations...it's 2007 and they lost money on poker! |

Since the demise of L@TB I have actively been searching for other poker commentary gigs but have had no success. It frustrates me beyond belief that new projects pop up and I don't even get a chance to audition for roles. As poker sponsorship exits so it seems do a lot of mid budgeted poker programs. I again turn to this forum to ask advice and help from anyone that has poker programming contacts. Many people have written that I am their favorite poker commentator. If you'd like to see me do more work in the industry please help me out. You can PM me or post suggestions. Thanks, Bart |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
It's so unfair i feel like you've been sold out by l@tb and dave t.
I just found out today that l@tb was no more. Its a sick feeling really. I watched religiously for a long time and knew most the names . i was happy to subscribe because i felt you guys where giving out to much free info that i didn’t want the fish to get a hold of. Your show was a window into a great poker players mind, i was able to see the gears turning. Bart you only have 383 post you need to post more and give your insight on here people will follow you. A lot of people on 2+2 have cult like followings. start posting and talking more everyone here give's you the up most respect. I and a lot of others are signed up with cardrunners.com please contact them as im sure they have a spot for you. i hope all this bs hasn’t effected your win rate, just remember what got your there because you are stronger and smarter than the average Bart last thing you cant be on tv commentating because your to smart, people who watch poker tournaments watch for a "show". they need joke tellers like norman chad to keep them entertained, you dont watch a tournament to learn how to play. you provided insight like a buddy to buddy conversation and i want to think you for that. It was like i could listen in on the conversation of the best cash game player at the casino. |
Re: Live At The Bike - IS DEAD
it an honor Bart and actually i would love to see you on tv.
maybe you can clear up some speculation on why l@tb just disappeared in your opinion. this got cut out of my post above |

Bart, you should post in "El Diablo's" forum, there are a couple of guys who work in TV there. You're 1000X better than the guys they have announcing "Cash Poker", I hope for all of use you get back in the biz.
