Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
One of the people I back feels that certain tournaments are worth their time if they have 100% of their action, but not worth their time with only a certain % of their action.
When we agreed to the terms, certain tournaments the backee can play on their own, and others, they must play backed, and this is one of the ones that they must play backed. Obv. I gain nothing directly but at the same time, they have played some of the tournaments in question within recent weeks, so I'm kind of uncertain about whether I'm actually giving up nothing. |

Re: Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
It depends on the specifics of the deal. Some types of deals it really doesn't hurt you at all (beyond just losing the EV that you get from him playing a tournament for you) for him to play it on his own money. And others it does.
But, whatever, if your deal is something like you get x% of money over his play in a month or something, just make it a month plus one extra tournament and let him play this one on his own money. |

I'm confused. You mean he has been playing the tournaments he is supposed to be backed in but you havn't actually been backing him?

Re: Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
so its something like you stake him for all tournaments over $100 entry, but he's been playing a bunch of $100 tournaments and you feel like this sucks for you? seems ok to me, I'm not sure though.

Re: Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
I stake him for $100 tournies and up(including $100 tournies).
He has been playing some $109's but less frequently and claims that he will no longer play them unless he can play them on his own. |

Seems wierd. Shouldn't you be making the decisions on what he plays since you're the backer?

Re: Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
makes sense.
He feels that its not worth his time to play for X% of profits at the $100 level. When the profits are higher it is worth his time. If you look at it from the perspective of his hourly rate his sentiment makes complete sense. If you think that his edge is still high at $150+ then continue to stake him. If not, don't. |

Re: Dunno where to put this- Situation with a backee
my oppinion is probably clear from my last post but yes, he should be able to play tournaments $0-$100.
He has the tournaments that he is playing with your bankroll of which he is entitled to X% of the profits He has the tournaments that he is playing with his bankroll of which he is entitled to 100% of the profits. It is pretty presumptuous of you to think that you should control what he does with his own bankroll, expecially when he is making his intentions absolutely clear with you and he is making sure that it does not interfere with your backing relationship |
