Note: Shortline's style is awesome, but you have to absolutely be as right as he and traz is to emulate it.
Also, shortline's meta stops after day 2. (though admittedly, no one has a clue what he's doing beforehand)
The thing is, I agree with gt1, that villagers should tighten up their logic, and that shortline metagames way too much.
However, he still gets night-killed as much as anyone in this game except traz, simply because he's right. Yeah, villagers need to post more villagery. That said, it's also extremely important to be right.

I wanted to bring up a gem of wisdom from BobO. Excellent tips for villagers.
Quote:
#1) When playing a game if you personally think a strategy is best for you and your teamates, then do it, even if everyone else thinks it is dumb and you know everyone else will think it is dumb
#2) If you have 2 options, both can work, but one is completely insane, choose that one.
#3) You are never wrong, if you are wrong, it was someone else's fault

#1 and #2 are 100% right. #1 should just be obvious, since it's selfless team play in a team game. #2 makes sense once you recall that wolves are at their best when they predict what the village is thinking, and so can plan and direct the flow of the game.
#3 is obviously a joke, heh.

no not even remotely close

Just because YOU think a strategy is good for your teammates doesnt mean actually is. This is hardly being selfless and is absolutely egoism, especially considering the next part of that statement: "even if everyone else thinks it is dumb and you know everyone else will think it is dumb."

It's impossible to 100% plan what a village with think, how they react, or what conclusions they will draw. "Tricking the wolves" by picking the more insane method is no where near correct. Wolves benefit from confusion. Villagers benefit from order. Again, this is basic basic WW stuff.

I don't see how you can argue with #1, since it presumes a strategy you think best. Why would you do something you believe to be inferior for your team?
As for #2, I would suggest there's a difference between an insane play, and a play that sews confusion. The latter IS bad, in general, I would agree.
But confusing and unpredictable aren't the same thing, necessarily.

I think the villager basics are pretty simple (I will exclude day one because it is somewhat off limits imo): You have two objectives 1) Finding wolves. Make posts that help you reach that goal. So basically the posts should be reasoning why you think someone is a wolf. Even if it is feel etc. I think it's not unreasonable to post "I think xxx is a wolf because yyy thinks so and he played his regular village game as far as I can tell. Additionally xxx's tone is slightly different from his regular village game (and then maybe list some quotes)" 2) Not being lynched. If you follow (1) there should not be many accusations. If there are, try to make posts which are a logical defense/ give reasoning why you are not a wolf. Also reread the people who accused you. ----- Additionally there is 3) Protect the seer. As a regular villager you can mix in your seer game to protect the real seer. However to make it work you should usually start day one and have good reads otherwise it will backfire and eliminate you as a possible seer from the pool and make life easier for the wolves. Also since seers tend to "sound wolfy" this could get you lynched or spend more time defending yourself than finding wolves. I think this one is pretty overrated.
What I would be interested in is a good strategy of blending your seer and villager style. As far as I can tell there is two ways: 1) Gamble. don't leave hints/play your regular village game as seer. Come out when you think you should 2) Leave hints etc. This influences your villager game because now you have to mix in leaving hints as a villager. -> Personally I think it is best to give the same reasonable explainations for people that you peeked that you would give as a regular villager.
The one point I have real problems with is what to do if you think you have identified a power villager. Normally just STFU and proceed as normal but what do you do if that person gets some heat. It's pretty tricky I think.

hyachachachahcha if you're luckay, you can say "I'm 100% sure this guy's a villager," defend him straight for five hours, have that person be a villager, and still live
the day I become a seer is the day of TRANSCENDENCE
