6 Max Starting Hand requirements.
I read where a poster said that you should be playing 30% of your hands at a 6 max table. This seems like an insanely high percentage of hand even taking Shania and Metagame into consideration. But since I’m a newbie, I thought I’d throw out my starting hand requirements and you could point out if there are any huge leaks.
UTG = Come in for a raise with: AA-22, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+.
UTG+1 = Come in for a raise with: 22+, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+ Call a raise with: JJ+, AQo+,
CO = Come in for a raise with 22+, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+, 75s+ (single gap suited) = Call a raise with JJ+, AQo+, 56s – TJs
BT = Come in for a raise with 22+, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+, 75s+ (single gap suited) = Call an EP raise with JJ+, AQo+, 56s – TJs = Call a CO raise with 22+, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+, 75s+ (single gap suited)
Blinds = Call an EP raise with JJ+, AQo+, 56s – TJs = Call a CO raise with 22+, AJo+, KQo+, 56s+, 75s+ (single gap suited) Any thoughts?

I play alot tighter then that and still do ok.
I dont call raises with any of those drawing hands in the blinds. Playing a draw in a pot you know is going to be Cbet oop sucks. Betting a draw into a raiser oop sucks. (IMO)
Of course if a superdonk and I are both deep, I'll call.

I've been raising with all kinds of things. It seems to me the trick is to abort when people play back and you don't have a hand and collect when people play back and you do.

I prefer limping in early position with 22-77 or 88, in small stakes many fishes like pots with a couple a limpers and then pay my set with top pair bad kicker...

I believe starting hand requirements are unnecessary. I play pre-flop according to how my opponents play. On a very loose passive player, I play tight. On a tight table, I play loose. My VPIP fluctuates from hour to hour, session to session. I think it's better to concentrate on playing loose aggressive against your tight opponents and tight against your loose opponents. I find that having starting hand requirements adds more frustration to the game and you are missing a lot of opportunites to pick up those small pots against weak tights.

I'm surorised to find that posters found that raising 22 UTG in a 6max game the most objecitonable part of my starting requirements...

I guess I should explain my thought process. If I'm the first in, then I'm just going to open it up for a raise. I'll never limp when the first one in the pot.
I'd rather raise UTG with 22 over AT anyday. I find it easier to play pocket pairs up front compared to suited connectors and even marginal high card hands for the following reasons: 1) With a nonpair hand like AT, I'm only going to hit the flop 1/3 of the time. Whereas with 22, I always have a pair on the flop even if it's an underpair. 2) It easier for me to play a pocket pair out of position. If I was the initial aggressor, I'll lead most flops without an ace on it. If I'm called, it's easy for me to get away from unless I flopped a set. Whereas with AT, if I hit the flop and am played back at, I have no idea where I'm at and will have a hard time getting away from the hand on future streets.
Is this an okay way to look at playing small pocket pairs up front? Or am I missing some ideas like... the times that you flop set over set. Or the importance of middle pairs sometimes flopping as an over-pair?
Thanks. PT

Paul,
Ive gotten much more aggressive with my PP from all positions and I am very pleased with the results thus far.
