When DON'T you c-bet?
      #4460033 - 01/16/06 12:54 PM

OK, I've clearly taken the continuation-bet concept W-A-Y too far, and I really need some guidance as to when you don't continue after showing aggression preflop.

I'm ashamed to admit that I basically AUTOBET any and every flop after raising preflop, into basically any number of opponents, regardless of anything else. This behavior is clearly stupid and spewing. Therefore, I ask you folks for some guidance: what are some general guidelines for when to make a c-bet and when to pass on the opportunity?

OOP with no help against 3+ villains i never c bet.

Draw heavy boards I never c bet.

Against tricky villains i rarely cbet

Against calling stations I rarely cbet

Never CB with 3+ villians.
Pretty much always CB vs. 1 villian.

2 villians is where it gets tricky. Having a pp helps. You have TT, board is K74, fire away. You have outs to a flush or straight, fire away. You have 2 overs to the board, fire away.

Places to not CB: Board is straight coordinated (456, 78T). 2-flush on the board should give you pause. Calling stations should give you pause. OOP with 2 villians behind you should give you pause. If current table image is bad, that should give you pause.

Is there any difference between 6max and full ring?

I only C-bet a whiffed overcard flop about 1/4-1/5 times in 50NL and below. In the 100 game which is more aggro, I tend to do it about 1/3.

When I do C-bet, I pot it so it is the exact same bet that I make with an overpair. Other than that ajmargarine pretty much got everything.

This is also a big leak for me. I tend to Cbet without paying attention to the amount of people or who is in the pot with me. The advice in this thread is very good.

AJ,
Just curious, in your "places to not cb" you talk about draw heavy boards, does it matter to you how many people see it in that situation? Or is that for 2 villains? Basically do you not cbet on draw heavy board vs 1 villain?

I also probably cbet waaaaaaaaay too much and after reading this post I think it is definitely one of the reasons I didn't survive my first shot at NL200.

It's mainly a question of looking at how many villains, their flop fold % and reading the board.
