I use to run into 'lag' issues with FTP+PAHUD but I found the culprit. (at least for me) If I left PokerTracker Ring Stats open, it'd cause lag when it updated my stats. I closed that window and only left the 'auto importer' window open and the lag issues went away.

See this post.

The big things for me: 1.) PostgreSQL, and 2.) Set PokerTracker priority to low (there used to be a script to do it, but it F's up in Vista, so I just do it manually through Task Manager now each time I start it up).

It's been virtually unplayable for me today. I don't know whats going on. Every time I open PA hud i get the "There are a large number of hand history files that are being processed. This may cause PA hud to run slowly." Even though the database cache is, supposedly created. Also, the full tilt client constatly uses around 75k or memory or whatever, and my fan is always going at full blast. My computer sounds like a jet taking off. Anybody have any ideas?

I plan to buy a new computer, duo 2 core, then quad core. I think that the new updates are programmed for modern PCs only. Their Mac software requirements are for the most modern models.

That will free up a minimal amount of processing power but I think everyone who is MTing already has animations off, some other ideas that would help a lot more...adjusting process priority, optimizing PT import interval, changing to windows classic theme (biggest help), restarting FT during breaks, switching to PostSQL, cleaning up databases, have PAHud cache only the database you are using..

This helped a lot, I'm able to play on FT now w/o lag.

Play enough and rakeback on Stars is outstanding... but I'm sure you know this already and there's no need sideline another thread with this tired subject.

What I've heard really helps is never resizing a table.

defrag your hard disk, but not with the ultra crap disk defrag that comes with windows. 'legally obtain' a commercial defragging program and clean that [censored] up.

I do notice very slight pausing every so often running pt showing hands HUD and the summary grabber

but never more then like one second and its pretty rare.

that being said i am planing to upgrade to the 6400x2 chip if i continue having a good month

You can be sure that any lag you experience on full tilt has nothing to do with your computer not being fast enough or not have enough memory, or using a different size table than the default, etc.. (assuming you are not working on a stone age model). All percieved lag is the result of the software waiting on a reply from the full tilt servers. You only percieve the lag on full tilt because it seems they share server connection handling and the painting of the windows on your screen in the same processing thread (or alternatively, the painting thread is waiting to get a lock on something locked by the connection thread or some such).

for me, i find, when lag
it's PT import hand
unplayable to a point.
take 2 minute for PT to finish import new HH
but it only happen sometime
i always compact the database 3-4 times before i start playing. i find it help.

Hmm, I don't think the PT and FT processes are dependent on each other in anyway (would take some hacking by PT..) So PT would have to be lagging your entire computer which perhaps is more noticeable on Full Tilt with it's tendency to hang while waiting for a response from the server..

Either way, it can easily be fixed on PT's end by implementing thread sleep calls every 20 milliseconds or so for the said actions that take awhile.

Assuming Windows XP, Right Click Desktop > Properties > Theme Tab > Choose Windows Classic. This made all the difference in the world for me.

I should add, my computer is probably worse than anyone here. Formerly I experienced terrible, unplayable lag with 6 tables or more with no HUD and no PT running. I now 12 table with no lag while running RT HUD and FTS script.

I open up stars when I want to play poker instead of tilt...lol j/k

once you're on the max number of tables you want to play, uncheck all the boxes (low, mid, high) so no tables show. Seems to help for me.

Realtime HUD by mikechops. A lot of people think it's better than PA (and not just for lag reasons).
