I guess Jose Conseco can't play with the guys anymore and is reduced to crashing in on a women only poker tournament. I guess he thought the women would be so enthralled with him at the table they would forget to take his chips. Not so, as they made short order of him and they all applauded his defeat. I have pictures if anyone is interested.

technically it is "illegal" to descriminate against men and have an "woman only" poker tourney. if a man wants to play the casino MUST allow him to play. this doesnt happen often as most men just choose not to play but, it would be considered sexual descrimination if they did not allow him in the tourney... so to answer all the naysayers YES this is VERY POSSIBLE

I went by the final table late Saturday night and noticed some guy (not Jose) at the final table so he wasn't the only male entered.
As an aside my experience playing with Jose Canseco is that he's been a pretty well-behaved opponent. But I do think the ladies should be able to have their own tournament.

No exception needed, they cannot keep you out of a "woman's only" tournament.
Just like if you decide to run a private game in a live poker room, if a seat is available anybody coming into the room can jump in, and the poker room has to seat them.

It does raise the question then, if the Commerce has started a president here.
I mean if men can complain they were discriminated against in order to get into a Ladies Only event, wny can't someone who is just 21 complain about reverse age discrimination, and be thus be allowed to play in a Seniors event, hmmm?
I think the commerce has opened up a real can of worms here, IMO.

Meh .. if you or any other man manages to get into the WSOP Ladies event in 2008, I for one will be banging on the door demanding to be allowed to play in the Seniors event (not much of a stretch anyway for me, as I will only be a few months off from the deadline anyhow).
If Harrahs lets guys in for the 2008 Ladies WSOP, then that could be the end for ALL special events is what I'm getting at.

Uhhh why would you be angry if guys get in the womens event?
Why can't seniors have their own event like they do in golf?

Age discrimination is allowed by law, and gender discrimination isn't.
You can have senior housing, but you can't have female or male only housing.
You can offer discounts to seniors, but not to whites only.
There are certain times gender discrimination has been legally allowed, usually having to do with ladies nights at bars and clubs.

Kramer: Anyway, it's been two years. I mean isn't there like statue of limitations on that?
Jerry: Statute.
Kramer: What?
Jerry: Statute of limitations. It's not a statue.

Welcome to like 2001 when the Tilt Boys first did this.
Also, who cares? I dont get why women want their own event, and that women quoted who wouldnt have entered if she knew a man had entered should go back to the kitchen or something if she doesnt want to compete with men.
I mean jeez, this is the 21st century and equality works in both directions.

I think you are missing the point. Yes, men can legally enter a womens competition. But, just consider this. For years men have played poker while women watched from the side lines. Very few had confidence enough to enter this world of back rooms and cigarettes. Sherry (the tournament director at the commerce casino) has worked hard to build this tournament. You can tell how difficult it has been since all we had were 8 tables. For many of the women this was their first time in a tournament. And now they, because of a few people that, I might add, had many tournaments they can, and have entered; will not be back. Not because of Jose as much as other quite rude men calling them "Pigs" and "low class" when they did not welcome them with open arms.
Jose cast an intimidating figure. Not Poker wise but just his size alone. Some women are intimidated and it was hard enough to get them to play. Now they won't be back. I for one am not intimidated but I won't return to a women's tournament because of the rudeness of the men. One had the nerve to tell me that if the women can play in "our tournaments" we can play in theirs. It is not your tournaments it is an open tournament. However, this is how many men perceive the open tournaments and treat us as intruders there. If you had a men only tournament I for one would respect that, and not enter.

Granny,
Poker (esp. live tourney poker at Commerce) is filled with miserable, delusional, egotistical, despicable, rude, disgusting people. In other words, don't expect much in the way of hospitality and manners when you walk into a poker room.
Players in live tournaments are like whiny children.
Don't expect much or you will be disspointed.
Maybe poker isn't for you.

this isn't exactly true since it's a case of the silent majority and the loud, obnoxious, drunken minority
and since NVG is an internet forum mostly, if not entirely, composed of these quiet internet players, most of whom are genuinely nice guys, i don't really get the point of that long ass ramble

How on earth does Jose's intimidating physical stature in any way mean that women should be scared of him? Do they really feel he will be violent if they catch him bluffing or such?
And one casino in Alberta has started running "Men's Only" events on the same day as the "Women's Only" events. That's cool. I laugh something fierce when I overheard two women complain about the Men's Only tourneys taking away tables and dealers that should be used for them.
Still. No need to segregate poker by gender.

Substitute "men" for "people" in the first sentence and you will have nailed the exact reason that women somtimes want to play in a Ladies Tournament. When women play together they do exhibit manners, because we are intelligent enough to be both competitive and fierce without acting rudely.
I play mostly mixed tournaments, and taking chips from arrogant men is one of my favorite things to do. However an ocassional Tournament with just women is fun, and as you near the money and the newbies have fallen away just as competitive as a mixed tournament.
With the decrease of new fish in the sea due to the restrictions of online poker, the game needs all the new entrants it can find. Discouraging new women to join in with their ripe-for-the-picking bankrolls by mysoginistic men foolishly preening their misguided judgements is just bad business.
