Scotty is not my absolute favorite player, but he is one sharp bastard, brain-wise and pimp-wise.
He is rejuvenated, and I predict a good showing for him. He is cashing, so now it's about loosening up to take the whole thing down.

Sure, he's sharp, but pimp-wise, you are mistaken. He is married, sir......
P.S. Odds he will choke again are high.

With the Grinder, An Tran, and Gavin Smith at his table, I'd hardly consider it a choke.

I think Scotty Nyguen is do. If you listened to the Grinder he said he was coming in 4th so I'd believe him. He has about 1/3 of the chips and it should be interesting to see what he does with them this time.

Sigh. He would be "due", if there was any truth to "dueness".

Scotty has 1.2M when it was 7-handed and by the time the TV bubble burst he was up to 2.1M. Nice job!

this structure is the SUCK.
it's so annoying that you don't get to see much poker being played at these fts
raul just pushed w/ QT suited from the sb and scotty had AQ off.
this was facilitated by Raul's only having around ten bets...sigh
headsup, even chipstacks grinder v scotty
viva la grinder.

How badly did the Grinder play this?
____________________
Hand 80 - Scotty Nguyen has the button, he raises to $300,000, Mizrachi reraises to $1.2 million, and Nguyen thinks for a minute before saying, "Alright, I'm all in, baby." Grinder immediately calls with Ah-Jc, but he's dominated by Nguyen's As-Qs. They're nearly even in chips, so whoever wins this should effectively win the tournament.
The flop comes Kh-9d-2s, and Nguyen retains the lead. Mizrachi needs a jack or a miracle to win this hand. The turn card is the 10s, and Mizrachi picks up a gut-shot straight draw, but the same number of outs. (He'll win with a queen, and lose with a jack.)
The crowd goes silent as Scotty Nguyen takes the microphone to say some nice words about the Grinder. It's an odd moment, because there is still one card (and three outs) to go.
The river card is the 8s, and Nguyen makes the nut flush to eliminate Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi in second place, where he earns $566,352.

wpt forum pro?
headsup, 30 bb apiece, he's got about 40 percent of his stack in on that reraise preflop.
it would take a pretty good read to fold at that point.

Well, i can't imagine he figures he can be ahead here, so he's either racing or dominated. Essentially, he is 45% to win this tournament at best if racing, and can VERY easily (as he was) be more like 25% to win. Saying he couldn't do anything else would be silly, but saying he CAN'T fold is almost as. I'm not saying folding is right there, but a case can easily be made for it, without a herculean read. Then again, maybe MM didn't think he could outplay SN, in which case, sure, shove it all in there and hope he has TT.
Also, anyone ever heard of taking a flop? Not that a reraise is bad, but sheesh, the guys complain structure, then push any decent ace like it's the nuts.

Well the Grinder does play for a living and does pretty well and he is the one who made the play. I love Monday morning Quarterbacking, if the Grinder had turned over AK or he had AQ vs Scotty's AJ this post would have been.. How bad did Scotty play this?

Plenty of pros make bad plays. There is a BIG difference between AJ and AK, and a decent one between AQ and AJ. Scotty has fold equity; MM didn't. Ergo, good play for Scotty, no matter the result, even if opponent had AK or even AA and Scotty doesn't hit flush.
BTW, the structure of the WPT's tournaments is more to blame than anything else here. Simply ludicrous that when the big $$$ is on the line, the first hand where player both get decent cards HU will decide the title. F the WPT.
