1. convert your [censored] hands it takes like two seconds and makes it much easier for everyone.
2. Post interesting hands i.e. Playing HU floating the turn with 9 high no draw to set up a river bluff= sexy. Losing a 60/40= who [censored] cares.
3. Posting about variance is fine on a few conditions 1. It includes stats/graphs over a meaningful sample not ZOMG I run bad. 2. If it's a small sample but it's ridiculous run it's acceptable 3. If your name is Indiana you may not post about variance, bad beats or being fabulously wealthy
But can we please get all the mundane beats that all of has have had of times out of the thread nobody [censored] cares. To paraphrase, stop being whiney little biatches.

in no way does this qualify as a stop in go, as there was no 'stop'

A stop n go is where you commit yourself by calling preflop and then push any flop in the hope for more fold equity then just shoving over preflop. This explains it pretty well.
You would be surprised what donks are capable of... Poker Stars, $15 + $1 NL Hold'em Tournament, 200/400 Blinds, 3 Players LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter
SB: 6,495 Hero (BB): 1,775 BTN: 5,230
Pre-Flop: (675) T K dealt to Hero (BB) BTN folds, SB raises to 1,200, Hero calls 800
Flop: (2,475) 6 J 8 (2 Players) SB checks, Hero bets 550 and is All-In, SB folds
Results: 2,475 Pot Hero mucked T K and WON 2,475 (+1,250 NET)
Edit: oops not a good example either, you are supposed act first on the flop.

That's not really a good example. You need to be first to act after the flop.

Best part of the stop n go portion of the "book". "Stop-and-gos are rare, and when they do arise, win very small amounts of equity because most of the time the result is identical to moving in preflop. The amount of discussion this play has generated online is way out of proportion to its value. If you are not already an advanced player, forget about stop-and-gos and concentrate on developing flawless basic skills. Once you have mastered the basics, it makes sense to add at least the risk-free stop-and-gos (such as the 22 example in the paragraph above) to your repertoire."

When you are old you can sneak into movies with impunity. My wife and I did tonight and we were busted. When the 17-20 yo asked if we had tickets for that movie I just said "no, we just wanted to see a bit of it." She wasn't up for kicking us out and just said OK.

Sippin I was happy to see that your Stars avatar is a picture of Roger Bart, the actor who played Snoopy in the Broadway revival of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and won a Tony for it. He also starred in Desperate Housewives and is the angry guy in the American Gangster trailer who yells that no way could a black guy have done more than the mafia has done.
Kudos.

Damn Stars went from no regs and stuff loading to no anybody and nothing loading.
Luckiest poker thing about suzzer: won 15-20 MTTs, never finished 2nd.
Unluckiest poker thing about suzzer: played over my head about 30 times, lost horribly 25 of them, broke even the other 5. Just saw a bunch of $225s with no one on them, been running good, said what the heck. Didn't make it past level 5 in my first 9 out of 12. Bubbled in the $315 after several shorties survived dominated hands on their allins. Fun.

So I log onto Stars and get this message:
"Internal error (71/1021), please contact support blah blah"
I send an email saying WTF? I get this back:
Quote:
Hello Michael,
Thank you for emailing us.
Please refer to this email that was sent to you in regards to this matter:
*************************************************************************** Please notice that if your birthday is on 12/05/89, this will mean you are not yet 18 years old. Been this the legal age to play in our site, we have frozen your account until 12/5/07.
Please email us back in 4 days so we can discuss re-opening your account. ***************************************************************************
Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Apparently, I've been playing underage on their site for over two years and they are waiting 4 days before my 18th B-day to let me know. BTW, I never recieved the above email, and I'm obviously WAAAY over 18 already.
So, I repeat: "WTF?"

I rarely play more than 100 sngos a month, so I think I may try to jack up the volume a bit in December. I've said that a million times before but hopefully I can actually make it happen.
I think I may have a problem though. Could 100/200 losses just be variance? It's over 257 tournaments, mostly 6-9 man sngos but some hu and mtts mixed in. I'm winning so I'm not too worried but winning more than I currently am would be ok too.

They said it's something about helping someone play on their account or something to get SuperNova blah, blah, blah. I didn't really understand. They're going to ban and confiscate the other player's account and charge them with terrorism and prolly put them in a Turkish prison.

here's some more detail. maybe too tight outside of the blinds?

edit: also, when i sorted more so that only hands in which i saw a flop were shown, i'm down t31.2k. could be bad all-in luck, but my W$SD is 44.24% so i dunno.

Look at W$SD%. It's pretty low and could be variance...this is like 300 SNG's, right? Also probably steal more blinds and fold less in your BB.

Ok, so I play 400nl. I've had back-to-back-to-back +10k months.
This is going to be the first Christmas season where I have a significant amount of disposable income.
How much do you guys think is appropriate to spend on your parents (whom helped you some what significantly financially through University and housed me since then for a period of time)?

I usually spend 50-100 dollars on each.(I have like a 3k roll at the moment fwiw. I always spend too much buying presents, becasue for some reason I get this high out of buying stuff for people. If I had that much money I would probably spend way too much. You could spend 100+ on something nice and probably look good imo.

With a lot of spare cash lying around, I think it's nice to spoil them a bit. Depending on their finances, they've probably made considerable sacrifices for your well-being. Buy them something that they would normally consider excessive, even if it costs you $1k or so.

Get them something cool like a video ipod if they understand technology, if not, I'm sending my folks on a vacation to a resort, although it is a place they can drive to in less than a day.

BCS = BS
Logically How can a team that didn't win it's conference, or even play in it's conference championship play for the national championship.
I think LSU deserves to go, but USC/OK and VT can make a case for going. That said, I think Georgia right now could beat anyone in the nation.
I have no idea who Deserves to go, but it's going to be [censored] up.

Devin, is your dad/mom a sports fan?
If so, buy some really hard to get tickets that are pricey and go on a cool trip or something, then you get to spend time with them(which they might like the most) and do something cool.

If Hawaii wins put them in the National Championship game.
Currently all the sports reporters are really saying
I have no idea - I really didn't look at it - I didn't think Pitt had a chance in hell.
LSU/OSU would get my votes - but my vote doesn't count.

I think USC is either the best team right now, or they are playing the best football right now.
But yea it will probably end up being OSU/LSU. Especially after ESPN is pimping LSU so much right now.

So I am trying to put in a lot of volume in over winter break ( will be about 27 days, slightly less than a month). I've talked to a friend of mine about making a small bet to motivate me to play. I have never played more than 350-400 games in one month ( I know, I know let me hear it...) He wants to bet $500 dollars on it which would be about a fifth of my roll. ( I play the $16s) What do you think I should put the number of games at? I will probably 6-9 table continously.
Also, do you think it is smart to bet that much money, I mean it should be easy to win, but I'm a nit and have never lost that much money before.
What do you say STTF?

And another tool is born.
Zeitgeist is the manifesto for people who want to be think differently about the world than anyone else but dont want to actually form cognitive thought so they watch the video and then go to every forum they know and say "OMG ZEITGEIST WILL CHANGE UR LIFE!" siiiiigh

I didn't say it would change lives, just said it was interesting. Obv you still have to assess documentaries that claim to know the truth with extreme skepticism.
AD - would you be making a shear volume bet or a certain amount won?

"Mind Blowing" implies more than "interesting", and that was more a general comment on the hundreds of other people ive seen rave blindly about it that clearly didnt really have a clue what they were talking about.
AD- normally id say thats too much of your roll to bet but thats free money(If I understand the bet correctly and you just have to play more than 400 games) so BEEEETTT ITTTT

I don't think mind blowing necessarily connotes acceptance. Anyways, I found some of their alleged evidence pretty interesting and that it is making me think more critically about mass media, etc. I don't really want to argue as I am known to.
AD - if it's shear volume I'd do it in a heartbeat. How many do you need to play?

kleath and vers.....We are trying to figure out what would be a fair amount of games for me to play. I have never played more than 350-400, but I have never tried to put in a lot of volume. Also, it's not like he's making this bet to make money ($500 means waaaaay more to me than it does to him), if that makes sense, like a motivator I guess.
What do you guys think I should put the number of games at roughly?

I cant figure out what that last sentence means but its all good, I interpreted your first post a different way than was intended and it lead me into an unrelated to you short rant, and with that Im about to spark up, one love

Kleath, the I don't really want to argue one? I meant that I've gone on huge rants b4 about non-poker stuff like politics and also the blackize/vers debacle.
Adlinden - if you have the whole month off basically and are 9 tabling continuously, you can play about 100 a day over 6 hrs. If you are capable of doing that day in day out, you could do like 2000 for sure (taking xmas/boxing day and other days off). If you've never played more than 400 or so, 1000 seems pretty daunting I guess.

Yea a 1000 games just seems like such a step I need to get over at some point. I dunno I might try to get like 800 or something to be the line.
If I had no money on it I don't know how I could get myself to play a lot. I always tell my self I could easily have a 5 figure BR if I actually played instead of just studying SNGs. (which I almost do too much.)

Unless you start running horribly and blow your roll, this bet for 800 would be a cinch. I wish people offered me bets like this on playing 2000 in a month. Doing stuff like this and trying to win leaderboards are great motivators. If you're going to put in large volume, I would suggest moving to FTP and making a leaderboard run to add more incentive/more money when you play lots.
