You can bounce the ball off the wall while playing. Or if you're like me, you can throw it at the wall as hard as you can after every bad beat.

Isn't Chez going for Supernova Elite? Just peel and raise him on the turn randomly. Nits fold a lot too.

I'll jump in as my PC decided to asplode itself and now I'm only on mac's.

There is a free program (well, it doesn't have an expiration trial date, anyway) called VMWare that allows you to run as many operating systems as you want. Using this, I have XP Pro running in the background almost always. Very quick/easy to switch back and forth.

Anything that works on your PC will work on your new version of XP, ldo.

As for running stuff in native mac OS X environment, you can run Full Tilt and any other mac friendly sites, but you will not have access to your PT db/HUD. If you are a HUD bot, this sucks. If you're not, then it doesn't matter.

Last point for poker related stuff is videos from sites like CR. They use a security feature that can only run on PCs. Like the sites, they will work fine in XP thru VMWare as long as you have the current version of Windows Media Player.

That's about it for the poker life on a mac. Other than that, macs are great in so many ways... I haven't got to try Leopard, but I heard it's just a juiced up version of Tiger.

If you're a computer whiz (i'm not) you'll like macs even more, 'cause it's a linux based system and you can do everything from a terminal prompt, while also living in the GUI friendly world of OS X.

I purchased a macbook last spring hoping to use be able to use my poker software by installing Windows XP. I found it just a bit too buggy for my liking. I remember having some issues with UB software and also think I had some problems somewhere in the PT/acehud as well. I originally installed using bootcamp before I was informed that you could install it with a software(parallels) that would allow you to use it as a window in OSX. I had some issues with the wireless networking, although it possibly may have just been an issue with my campus' wireless not liking the configuration of the adapter running from windows through osX.

Although, I'm probably a nit and the little things that were pissing me off could probably be dealt with by most. Also there probably has been an improvement in the software used to emulate windows since then.

I have since bought a sic Lenovo thinkpad z61p with 1920x1200WUXGA and can't get enough of it.

I actually get company discoutns on all these computers which is why im looking at them..I jsut dont know that I can justify the price of a mac when I can save about 400-500 on a dell (Not sure I want dell either).

I also get a discount on Lenovo and had never relaly looked at thim or heard of them. I may check them out.

Pretty standard. People in that forum don't post their beats unless they can brag about that too. Fun forum to read though.

New benchmark.

I have no idea how i'm going to get under that 100 second mark. I've only maintained a 1 sec/bomb time for like 40 bombs until I either misclick or just forget all logic.

Posting this in the LC NC thread hoping random lurkers dont read it.

So based on my post from the other day I tried figuring out a new experimental range.

If there is any discrepancies from position to position pls let me know.

The button and SB ranges are pretty much useless. The button range is so variable and a lot of the SB hands I will open complete depending on the opponent.

Feel free to berate or just discuss!

I used to have about the same but recently I've been tightening up (mine now looks like 44, A2s, A6o, K8s, KTo, Q9s, QTo, J8s, JTo/J9o, T9s, T9o, 98s, 87s and maybe 76s).

I had to tighten up because I felt like I didn't play too well. I watched some videos by Stox and he seemed to be much more conservative in situations like this so I figured I'd try it too. I believe I had widened my range too much because I figured my edge was bigger than it actually was.

But if you play well and have a considerable postflop edge over the people in the blinds I definitly advice opening more liberal than what I'm doing right now... i still think yours is a little too loose though. Perhaps something like: 33, A2s, A4o, K6s, K9o, Q8s, QTo, J7s, J9o, T8s, T9o, 98s, 87s, 76s, 65s.

I also think you have to consider the rake and blind structure. A 3-5 structure promotes looser play than a 1-2 or 2-5 structure. Furthermore in the lower limits the rake is huge so you need to tighten up accordingly.
My above recommendations is based on no rake and a 1-2 structure.

EDIT: I'm talking about CO.

Yeah, I was talking about CO. Thought it was what you asked for.

Just a little low content hand. My note on villain was "passive":

Absolute Poker
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $5/$10
5 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (5 players) HERO is UTG with T K
HERO raises, 2 folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: Q J 2 (6SB, 3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, HERO bets, SB calls, BB folds.

Turn: 2 (4BB, 2 players)
SB checks, HERO checks.

River: A (4BB, 2 players)
SB bets, HERO raises, SB calls.

Results:
Final pot: 8BB
HERO Shows 10d Kd
SB Shows Qs Qh

In one of the next hand he limped and check/called down with KK on a dry board.

EDIT: Thanks to Oink for sponsoring the hand converter.

jeeezuz. been musing over upgrading my pc into a hi-end gaming rig (i already got 28inch lcd with 1080p) or buying an xbox360. i like that i can sit on a sofa or bed while playing the 360 with friends, plus all 360s' games look kinda cool. but i also like the pc an its strategy games, plus they have the biggest gaming selection... so far ive spend 3 days thnking about it and cant make up my mind.

Those are all much looser than my standards, but it's partly because of the limits I play. I think my range is similar, but just move every hand up about 2 spots. I also don't like suited Q's as much as you do.

So based on my post from the other day I tried figuring out a new experimental range.

If there is any discrepancies from position to position pls let me know.

The button and SB ranges are pretty much useless. The button range is so variable and a lot of the SB hands I will open complete depending on the opponent.

Feel free to berate or just discuss!

looks like you got the offsuit hands close to right and the suited hands a bit too loose. I dunno, hopefully I'll have more to say in a week.

Also, fold qjo but raise k8s utg?

Fold k6o but raise 96s in CO?

85o and 64o in sb?

Since Stars opened up 24 tabling I decided to see what my limit was for short handed. I got to 16 and then couldn't even open the lobby between actions:

I have a dual monitor set up though (22" + 19"), but for some reason the PokerStars software decided to put 6 tables on my 22" and 10 on my 19".

Here are the stats:

This was about an hour and a half.

I dont think I am gonna raise these much. If I am gonna play em its probably by completing PF.

SB ranges suck! Dunno why I posted them.

I am wondering what ppl here have to say about this...

I think it can be good and bad to have people reading the more technical aspects of the game:

From a good standpoint, a lot of people will learn the general concepts and apply them incorrectly which is good.

From a bad standpoint, it will help good players become better players which makes it tougher for us.

2 things -

1) i'm pretty pissed i now know PJ's real name is Zach. He is up there on the list of 2p2ers I never want to meet. Not because he isn't a nice guy, good poster, or anything like that. It's that if he isn't actually Mos Def, i'll be so pissed. I saw the preview for "Be Kind Rewind" and i was like "flippin' sweet PJ in another flick yo".

And I heard he ISN'T actually mos def but whatever i think the dude that said that got banned.

2) vmacosta i'm with you on this a little bit but i've come to realize over time that knowing how to play internet poker is about 10% of what it takes to be a long term winner online. That numbers is based on the number of people who know how to play poker and actually are winners online.

So

I went to this costume party last weekend with some friends. I was a sexy kitty, my roommate was a sexy bunny.

We found these girls. Please do not misconstrue this as a brag. We were just surprised two girls came dressed up the same as us. (edit: this is the first pic I've posted here with my BIZZEARD)

villain is 60/2/0.5 - callingstation- after enough hands...

Poker Room skin
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $1/$2
5 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is BB with Q A
UTG calls, 2 folds, SB raises, Hero calls, UTG calls.

Flop: 7 Q 6 (4.5SB, 3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, UTG calls.

Turn: 3 (3.75BB, 3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, UTG calls.

River: T (6.75BB, 3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, UTG folds, UTG folds, Hero folds.

Results:
Final pot: 8.75BB
SB bet 7 collected 18.05 net 11.05 shows 7d 6d <---- wtf

also funny (same villain):

Poker Room skin
Limit Holdem Ring game
Limit: $1/$2
5 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is UTG with K 9
Hero raises, 3 folds, BB calls.

Flop: 8 2 9 (4.5SB, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.

Turn: 7 (3.25BB, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.

River: T (5.25BB, 2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB raises, Hero calls, Hero folds.

Results:
Final pot: 9.25BB
BB bet 9 collected 17.60 net 8.60 shows 6s 2d

I mean sucking out with 2pair or trips would be ok, but it always has to be runner runner, right?

- The same procedure as every hand James.

There is a trend in my database where I make a lot more money from the CO than the button. I'll have to investigate. I guess I'm too loose on the button for my games.

I think it would be a good exercise to vocalize my thought processes, and maybe you guys can correct me if I am thinking about things in the wrong way or missing important stuff

ok so i have this leak where I hit "Get Chips" in full tilt software, then press the enter key to reload the default amount. Well sometimes other tables steal focus after I'm in the get chips menu but before I can press enter to reload. So it ends up defaulting a minbet on the table that stole focus.

I've been looking through my stats and I don't see any obvious differences. I raise just a little bit more from the button and my stats are similar. The position advantage should be enough to make me win more on the button than in the CO so I don't know what's going on. Maybe it's that people play back at me more when I raise on the button and I don't adjust to it well.

don't mean to actually talk strategy here, but once the turn gets played like that JJ shouldn't be in his hand range. BUT, since it is clear that he plays a hand played like that on the turn (there are lots of retarded TAGs out there) his range is larger than just hands beating us when the river is raised.

the only other hands that'll raise the river are AdKd and AdQd and the amount of retarded action these hands have put in on the flop and turn plus the fact that they're only two combos means you're still not looking hot when raised on the river. plus, the turn isn't exactly a blank for JJ, and there are only 6 combos of 66+77 that beat it (though i agree the raise is stupid). also, just because JJ can be in his range on the turn absolutely does not mean AA-QQ can be in his range on the river. players very rarely would play AA-QQ like that on the turn and river, whereas many would overplay JJ on the turn. of those who overplay the turn, 100% of them raise the river.

summary:

- raising JJ on turn is bad, yes.
- capping flop, raising turn, and raising river with AK/AQ diamonds is many times worse.
- AA-QQ make no sense.
- don't reraise.

I'm contemplating a trip to Vegas with a couple of friends. How are the 5/10 and 10/20 games there? And is it ok if I play/shot 10/20 even though I'm only rolled for 5/10?

i was reading bbv. the mspaint challenge thread. someone said older threads were linked in the sticky. so, i opened the sticky - saw stabbed by poker

OP:
Quote:

Man this is really [censored] up. After losing this hand i went crazy. 1/2 NL Holdem. I get AA and raise 4x the BB, and some kids i dont know calls. Flop is K Q 4(rainbow. I check, he bets i ReRaise him like $40. He instantly goes all in with another $4o or so to me. I call, he shows Q 10(im happy)
Turn: J
River:9

I am pissed off. Then the Villian starts boasting about how good he played it an so forth. I reached out to shake his hand(i was just doing it to make him feel stupid). I said well at least I get to shake a real Pro Players hand.
I then walked over to my friends kitchen and grabbed a knife. Not too sharp to kill but it would hurt. I slowly walk up to him and stab him in on the left side of his stomach.

NExt thing COPS show up, after some douche calls 911. The cops come and they search everybody for weapons and drugs. They find Crystal Meth on one of my friends and they take me and him in to jail.

I didn't call my parents, but my cousin did post my bail. I now have to stand trial, b/c the kid i stabbed is sueing me for Aggravated Assault. Wish me luck guys.

I had an awful time finding any limit games above 3/6 at Mandalay/Luxor/Caesar's/Trop. I guess you have to to go to Taj or Wynn? Wherever those games are I'm sure they're soft.

I think I have a fear of getting bluffed by donkeys...that has led me to making some god awful calls when I know I am behind...saw that several times today and is probably costing me 5bb/100 or so making just idiotic calls. Kross will be able to testify that on aim I told him what a stupid call it was that I was making as I made it...just disgusts me.

My roommate (25 y/o girl, pics will not be provided) tried to [censored] me tonight while drunk.

Is this a bad thing as far as roommate situations go? I'm all for sex and such, but not worth having my ass out on the street one day.

Isn't avoiding needless sexual tension the point of moving in with a two?

Because if she's any hotter than a two, then:
1) I'm not buying you turned it down
2) Next chance you get you will atone for your mistake
3) You will try and take this situation to Threesomeville in every opportunity the future presents

There's no 5/10 in vegas to my knowledge. Mirage has 10/20 but bellagio and wynn don't. 4/8 is a joke everywhere, 8/16 and 15/30 are soft imo, especially at Bellagio.

I table select goot.

Right now I'm sitting at a 1/2 table. The guy left to me is 20/13/4, guy 2 seats to my left is TAG too.

The 3 guys to my right are in order: 60/3/0.4, 44/4.5/1, 53/18/1.75

Jesus seat FTW. (I'm up 45 bets on this table after 1.5hrs)

Wow. UTG is a noted spewtard, the rest I really don't know yet. As this hand is going on, BB is typing, "I have AA, seriously. If you have a 6, you win."

PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (6 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 5, 5.
UTG calls, Hero calls, 1 fold, Button raises, 1 fold, BB 3-bets, UTG calls, Hero calls, Button caps, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (16.50 SB) 6, 5, 6 (4 players)
BB bets, UTG calls, Hero calls, Button raises, BB 3-bets, UTG calls, Hero calls, Button caps, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (16.25 BB) 3 (4 players)
BB bets, UTG calls, Hero raises, Button folds, BB 3-bets, UTG calls, Hero caps, BB calls, UTG calls.

River: (28.25 BB) 8 (3 players)
BB bets, UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, BB caps, UTG calls, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 38.25 BB

Results in white below:
BB has Ah Ad (two pair, aces and sixes).
UTG has 9h 7h (straight, nine high).
Hero has 5h 5d (full house, fives full of sixes).
Outcome: Hero wins 38.25 BB.

What characteristics do bots exhibit that really stick out to you? I've seen the work you've done with datamining, but what about timing tells?

the old bots would take the same amount of time for every action

like if they 3bet preflop they would take exactly 4 seconds every time to call a cap

they dont do that anymore tho

Is there anything during actual play that really makes you think it's a bot? Or is it something you mostly sniff out from PT stats?

i decided to give nl a break and start playing limit again.

So far this month. last 1k hands was today. I'd appreciate if anyone has seen me play at FTP under the name DaMelch to critique my play (preferably via pm). I am aware of some mistakes I make already.

39/39 SD stats today through 600 hands. -$1k, wiped out my monthly profit so far.

I run horrible and play meh this morning at nl, and I lose $20. I run bad in limit and I want to shoot myself in the face and lost $1k. And I thought I played decent until the last 15 hands or so. Then I felt like I was tilting and just quit.

whining over with.

I don't know how we survived 146 yards of penalties, but Patriots 24, Colts 20. Someone call the '72 Dolphins and tell them we're on their block.

He would have spewed anyway if u raised. Not folding AA there. Your fancy play might actually convince him to fold it. It's no fold'em... just bet your hand.

If UTG has AA it doesnt matter whether you raise or not. 4 bets will go in eventually.

You cant convince yourself to slowplay these flops. FPS yo! Everytime you have a monster on the flop you should just jam unless we are talking about AA on AA2 flop.

Phuket Trip Report [Re: BryanC]
      #12813884 - 11/05/07 01:45 AM

So, just got back from Phuket, where my friend and I watched this Swatch Womens Beach Volleyball Championships thing. It was pretty entertaining - we got to sit and watch Kerri Walsh and Misty May (gold medalists in beach volleyball in the last Olympic Games) play about five meters away from us. Afterwards, I tried to get a picture with them. Here's the result:

This is what they really look like - I raced over next to them after this shot was taken, and was yelling at my friend to snap another shot, but he got all weird about violating their privacy and wussed out. I, of course, looked like a complete tool, and they ignored me - haha.

There were some amazingly hot Brazillian chicks playing, too. What do you think this Thai dude is REALLY looking at?

H'yea...

After volleyball, I got a chance to return to the motherland...

Efficacy: yeah but too bad you can't get paid off on that turn and river card

He had QQ. You just saved a lot of $$$.

Had a similar experience this weekend at 50/100. Coldcapped AJ in the BB against the button and small blind. Then got disconnected on an AAx flop. I was playing 3 tables and had 2 disc. protections. Guess which hand was folded.

by the way, is it considered bad etiquette in HU NL to bitch about how boring and lame NL is compared to limit, and go on long tirades about how the hell these guys can play it all day?

Yes. My pre-flop 3-bet says I have an A already or 234. If he can read hands he would know that the A isn't likely to help me, but 2 other A are already out so now it looks like I have the best draw, whereas they are both drawing to higher lows. I should have checked the river as played even though I have a lot of outs. I should have bet both streets though.

dunno. putting lots of bets in on QJT gets people to put you on AK faster than they normally do. i very very rarely b/c c/r and only did so this time because of the board.

I always do. The fact that it was against Chez coupled with the inordinately sick feeling I got when that river card came off forced me to click check.

oh. i thought when you posted that that maybe it was actually against him. fact is, you COULD fold to a river c/r so it's not as bad as having to call a raise, though i'm all about making people sad because they miss bets. glad you checked now. i am happy that you saved bets more than he missed bets - my philosophy.

it's cool. i will always choose the result that ends in costing him bets than it does in losing me bets. that's the way i roll now. let him cry about it. if i miss a bet i don't really care.

CACAACYAYAYHHAHAHCHCHCHAHAHA

YESSSSSSSSSS

SO because i'm a pushover I never make snooty comments at work. But i'm leaving next week. Doesn't mean i'm gonna be a dick or anything but today has me at my wits end.

So my boss is like "oh noes will you have time to finish ALL THAT before you leave?"

And i'm like "yeah i should, sorry this took so long this morning but i was stuck at [INSERT DEMON WOMAN'S NAME HERE]'s desk all morning"

Boss: "I thought you were done working with DEMON WOMAN"

Me: "Yeah, so did I."

But in like a "this bitch better stop with these [censored] idiot requests there are 15 people in this office all of which apparently need my help as i'm leaving and your [censored] idiot requests are a waste of [censored] time"

this is the woman who, on my 1st big project at the company, made a cray request for a spreadsheet that basically would act as a DB for god knows what reason. i made it. she says "you know what would be much better? do all this"

all this took me about a week of actual work. not like "2p2 from 9am to 11am, 1 hr work, lunch, 4 hours 2p2, 30 min work" week but like "2p2 from 9am to 10am, work for 2 hours, lunch, work, 1/2 hour 2p2, work, 1/2hr2p2, work, home"

and then we met and they were like "but why doesn't it do a, b and c?" and i was like "because you said you didn't want it to do a,b, and c, you wanted d through z i made it do abc and you said no!"

so i had to do it again.

thx guys. man did that snooty comment feel good.

after huge september (my best month ever), october onward has been breakeven in big bets. fortunately, i've been running pretty goot this month. bad news, i'm still down 3k atm cuz i ran bad at higher limits and ran goot at lower limits during breakeven streak (or prolly played bad high and played goot low).
