The same formula described here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=3513753) applies to backgammon, as do the comments around the formula.

The standard deviation of a money game is usually 2.5-3 points. It depends on the playing styles. If you tend to double your opponent out rather than in, that decreases the standard deviation. If you make early doubles, that increases the standard deviation. If you make bad takes, that increases the standard deviation.

For money play, yes, the same formula as for poker bankrolls can be applied.

For match play, you may take a simpler approach, if you've played enough matches to have a fair idea what percentage of your matches you win. Now you can just convert your win rate into an EV (51% = +.02, 52% = +.04, 55% = +.10 etc) and go straight to the Kelly formula, with whatever risk aversion factor you feel is appropriate in front of it.

Something a lot of people forget:

Assume you are 70% to 30% favourite in a a tournament match in a big tournament, which is a big advantage. You are not favourite to survive 2 rounds.
