I just moved out west to breckenridge and checked out blackhawk area cas' friday night, played a 35+5 @ the CSS and it seemed soft, made the FT but missed the $ on a stupid move but using the search i'm curious of the veterans picks on good tournaments & soft 2/5 or 3/5 limit games?

i hear gilpin has a good $50 madness and the lodge limit games are to be avoided like the plague due to coercion and betting idiocy. also hear they're opening a new joint real soon? flaking out working nights my only regular day off would be thurs or friday, so thoughts about the gilpin $60 and the rebuy madness on friday? i'll most likely be up this tues to play the $60 and prolly 1nce a wk bc i'd rather play live. thx/ Andy

Others can speak with vastly more experience than me, but I must say that I prefer the gilpen to the lodge by a mile. Roomier, less smoke, etc. etc.

At least when I've played (weekends) the 2-5 and the Lodge and the 2-4 at the Giplen were both pretty soft. Possibly softer than .5/1 on Party . . .

I agree w/ AK, The Gilpin is by far the nicest room I've been to in Blackhawk. Their NL tourneys are quite soft too.

Andy,
The Friday night tourney at the Gilpin is the "Psycho Fifty". $50 buy in and up to eight $50 rebuys. Only once has anyone done 8 rebuys...lol. There's also a bounty of 1000 chips when you bust someone out and they don't rebuy. The prize pool gets pretty large.

If you're into rebuy tourneys, the Gilpin also has a $100 rebuy tourney on Saturday night - up to three rebuys. You can do all three buys at once, or whenever you need to. Some guys plunk down $400 right away and start with a big stack.

Check out the Gilpin Tourney Schedule (http://www.thelodgecasino.com/pokerroom.html) We have tourneys every day.

The new room opening will be at the Golden Gates casino. It's opening in a few days.

Good luck!
JP

thanks for the info, i'm gonna play the 60$ gilpin non rebuy 7pm this tuesday and will be up there to play various limit games and tourneys for the rest of the winter- generally wearing a blue hoodie and electric hat. i'll sup bro the table to get weird looks from the old timers & figure out whose blinds want to be stolen. I don't play many tourneys but the Gilpin is suppose to have the best. When playing live action there isn't any 3-5 structured that i know of...i know gilpin tried to spread it but there was no interest. The 2-5 at Mile High is the best place to go IMO. The games are always soft..plus if you are playing during the weekend (Fri-Sun) they have a lot smaller rake than the Lodge and the Gilpin. Both the Lodge and Gilpin have a $7 total rake ($5 for rake + $2 for bad beat). That reason alone keeps me away from both places on weekends. Golden Gates is the new one opening up on the 22nd. And from what i hear their room may be the nicest one...and they won't have the $7 rake. I don't know if it's true or not but i heard from many people that the Gilpin is in big trouble because they run so many tourneys that it's not making all that much money and their dealers are going elsewhere because the money over there is terrible compared to the other places. Whether it's true or not i don't know but it sure makes sense. Anyway...happy hunting!

I forgot...Mile High has a tourney everyday at noon for $60 plus they have a few others at other times during the week. They don't take a rake on tourneys. Also, when Golden gates opens up i heard that they are starting their bad beat at $100,000. Central Station also has tourneys and here is a link CCS (http://www.coloradocentralstation.com/current_events_article.php?id=198)

Colorado Central Station spreads the best structure in a tournament. Gilpin is a solid second but the blind structure is too fast in the few I've played there.

edit: soft 2-5 games all over town, rack up if it's only 3 to a flop. Surprisingly, Fortune Valley (old Harveys) now has lots of action where it used to be a rock garden. According to the dealers, table 9 is always action city. There's no particular reason why it would be but my two sessions on that table cannot refute this claim.

What is the structure of the tournaments over at CCS? I've never played on there before.
This one kid i know told me tht FV was getting looser...but he's not the most honest guy so i didn't know whether to believe him or not. Doesn't FV also give you a $1 per hour that you can even use for live action play?

I don't remember the blind structure offhand but there are additional levels like 75/150 that the other rooms skip. Going straight from 50/100 to 100/200 creates a wall that you MUST pull some cards in order to get past.

Yes, FV gives $1/hr "rakeback"

Thank for the info. Having additional levels would be a huge plus. I remember the first time i played a tourney at Mountain High...it went from 200/400 to 500/1000. If you don't know that is coming it sure will shock you. I know that they've since added a level in between there but if CCS has more levels than other places do then it would definitley be the place to play tourneys.

from memory the $40 CCS tourn had levels that were pretty standard, 20 mins, 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 200-400 500-1000. i asked the tourn director (bald guy, tattoo on his arm) whatsup with the lack of a 250-500 and he's like i dont wanna be here all night. probably true but everyone at the FT had an M less than 6. ill post a review of the gilpin 60$ later tonight. thanks again for the info, seems like we've got some 2p2'rs out here, should organize a game sometime.

Yeah, nobody ever said live poker in Colorado was +EV. (Although, it probably still is given the horrendous skill level.) I only go up once in a blue moon now, and even then I view it purely as entertainment, not an opportunity to make money.

If Colorado would raise the maximum table bet from $5 to even $20 or $30 I think it would be much more worth while to venture to Blackhawk more often. As it stand today it's just a nice diversion.

juanez

Not to be a nit, but a few are less than 20%.

The $45+5 is 11%
The $90+10 is 11%

Sometimes SNG's will run on nights when the demand is there and the scheduled tourneys are full. Those are $100+15. Obviously that's 15%.

Good luck!

I might play the $40 tourney tonight up there. Is Hero right about the 20 min/level?

Arrived an hour early for the gilpin 60$ on tuesday and it'd already filled so i ended up playing the CCS 40$. {note: gilpin was running 100+15 S&G's bc tourney was full} Levels are 20 minutes but some days you'll start w/ T1000 chips and some T1500 chips. (thats a friday vs. tuesday in my limited exp.) don't know how they determine which, i'd call the poker room for info [303.582.3000] imo the tourneys pretty soft but agree with poster who noted that with no intermediate levels catching cards, or at least accumulating chips early is necessary for survival. W/ 60 entrants, 6 ITM , with a 35+5 structure, i'd agree to come here for fun, not to make a profit. 2/5 is like playing roulette, tags vs. idiots, some even post a 5$ blind in the dark. Edited: To ask that smoove post his exp if you did play the CCS 40$ fri night- Goodluck. A/

Starting chips depend on the buy in.

$24 Freeze Out= 1500 chips
$48 (Hoppin 44) = 2000 chips
$70 Freeze Out = 2500 chps
$100 Freeze Out = 2500 chips
$100 Rebuy = 2000 starting chips, 3000 for rebuys
$50 (Psycho 50) = 1500 starting chips, 2000 for rebuys and add on, 1000 chips bounties

Thanks for the info on the tourneys. Looks like Juanez posted the starting chips. I just wish they didn't raise the levels so high after you've been playing for a couple hours. Oh well...if you are just looking for a good time i guess it would be alright. Although i have noticed that at the Mountain High there is one guy that seems to consistently be in the money and have even heard dealers comment about him...I wonder how well he really does?

I'm told that the $100 buy in w/ two $100 rebuys on Sundays at CCS is a good tournament. I usually don't play that high, but I'm at the point where I'd rather spend the money for a better structure. I hear it is 30 minute rounds, and I'm looking to check it out one of these days.

There 2-5 is great, I have been very successful there.

The good thing about Mountain High is that they don't charge a rake for their tournaments. They basically have two sets of tourneys: 1) everyday at noon with a $60 buy-in. 15 minute rounds, starting at 25/50, with 2000 in starting chips. There's usually three or four tables of players in this one. 2) Monday and Wednesday nights at 7pm, $90 buy-in, 20 minute rounds, 25/50 starting blinds and 2500 in starting chips.

Like I said they don't take any rake/tournament fee; but $5 of each entry fee goes towards a monthly tournament of champions where every winner gets to basically play in a $5000 freeroll.

The play is typical Blackhawk, a few rocks, a few good players, plenty of goofy bastards who give their chips away with little resistance.

If anyone is interested Patrick and I have been talking about playing in tomorrow night's 7pm tourney at Mountain High.
