There's currently a mumps epidemic spreading throughout the US. LINK (http://www.channel3000.com/news/8730509/detail.html?rss=c3k&psp=news)

I thought everyone is vaccinated against Mumps as a child, so what gives?

Maybe the vaccination requirments differ in each state, but in NY i think you have to be vaccinated in order to attend public school.

So a person who was vaccinated has nothing/very little to worry about?

One dose is about 80 percent effective, and two doses, which is what most U.S. children get, work about 95 percent of the time, Allen said.

did you get one dose or 2?

And even if you've been vaccinated for the mumps, you may not be in the clear. Doctors fear the shot may wear off for some, which could be allowing the illness to spread.

I think the CNN article I looked at said 77 was the first year US starting requiring 1 shot. Early 90's was when they started requiring 2 shots.
