View Full Version : 2+2 tourney big winners list

Guys, who says I don't give tourney donks enough props!? I thought this would be a fun list to compile. Perhaps some of you agree. I'll arbitrarily set the amount at $100k+ tourney scores. Three groups - live, online, "stretch 2+2ers" (ie: infrequently post or just posted a couple times after winning). I'm just going by memory here, so some of these numbers are probably wrong.

Group 1
Raymer - WSOP 05, 5M
Some dude - WSOP 06, 1M+
Schneids - PPM 06, $1M
stevepa - something big
AJo - WPT Foxwoods 06, $650k
ActionBob - something big
Gavin Griffin - WSOP win
Bolivia - WSOP win

Group 2
ZJ - HAHAHAHAHAHA (sorry)

Group 3
Temp Hutter - some WPT or something

Please continue/correct!

I am currently 2nd in chips in a WPEX $10 tournament.

Edit: Nevermind, just lost a pot.

schaefer at deauville and monte carlo, colson at deauville. I think the 5 diamond side event third place was technically 100k.

I believe some dude at the 06 ME FT was
Brad Kondracki - $1,150,000.

shaniac has 2 six digit scores:
5th $ 132,110 in a 1k WSOP NLHE.
1st $ 219,030 in an LAPC event.

I think Colson and MLG should be up there too.

Richard Grijalva (gotmilk) 4th in the WPT championship for 457K. He was like ~300 posts at the time, IIRC.

MLG

Knee,
I have no 100k wins. Colson has 2, one for 3rd in a 5k Bellagio event, and one for EPT Deauville.

Two of my cashes have been for more than $100K.

How's this for a rush: I played in exactly three tournaments over the course of 65 days and came in 1st, 1st and 2nd for just over $1.2M. Its a fun hobby.

Temp, I gotta say, you might have my favorite WPT moment evar with "eight high? You did that with eight high?" It was like Ellix Powers only from someone who doesn't suck.

I was really so tired at that point I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something so I went through it again. Yes, I should have insta called.

I think playing against Tuan would ruin my perception of common hand values, and I'd end up insta calling all ins with bottom pair.

Barry Greenstein posts here, and he does pretty good in tournaments. Does he count?

As far as genuine homegrown successes, there will never be another like FossilMan.

Ansky
04-11-2006, 07:57 AM
Given that he was already a god on 2+2 before his win, I think thats true.

However, it's not out of the realm of possibility that another 2+2er will take down the ME in the next couple of years.

There are HUGE winners on this forum who aren't even old enough to set foot into a casino. Why wouldn't they become champions with, oh, let's say another 3-5 years (leaving them STILL UNDER 30!!), of continual improvement?

Even if another 2+2er takes down the main event, it wouldn't breach the "homegrown success" metric. Before poker was what it is, Fossilman published volumes of lucid and candid writing about tournaments on these boards. His contribution to thes MTT forum probably helped establish our collective understanding of tournament strategy better than any writing before or since.

Shane, not that I would doubt you anyway, but you reg date further legitimizes what you said.

So yeah, unless like... Sklansky won it, no one can really rival Raymer.

A_PLUS

Besides, I have pretty much proven beyond a reasonable doubt that someone from the MTT forum is 2.6-1 to win the ME this year.

Steven Hudak is a 2p2er. He came in 2nd in the $2000 pot limit Holdem event last year for 160k. He also came in 7th in a $10k WSOP circuit event at Bally's I think for about $70k.

Shane, I listened to an old interview you did on The Circuit via a podcast the other morning prior to the short-handed event on Friday. Good stuff! Now if you and the boys could have given me a good tip on how to avoid getting rivered by a flush when I flopped top set I would have really been impressed! In all seriousness, good interview and good luck at this month!

For those of you who haven't been listening to the Circuit I would strongly recommend it, espeically since Gavin and Joe have taken over hosting duties. Gavin, especially, has some great insight into tournament play. All of the episodes are available for free via itunes.

I watched a bit with Schaefer and the rest of his crew. He played great and deserved to win. There was a lot of aggressive poker going on and it should make for a great show. There were also a bunch of sick beats. At one point there was 3 all-in hands in a row and the dog won each time. Crazy stuff.

Congrats, Rizen.
