I think the Grovenor (sp?) Victoria is open to the public. Bring your passport as ID and dress decently.

The Gutshot in Clerkenwell is worth a look too.

Most games are limit and pot limit. very little NL from what I hear.

The member thing is not a problem anymore, in that it no longer requires 24hr prior notice. Now ou can show up and play on the same day, still need to become an (instant) member though.

I was there in November and played at the Gutshot Club (http://www.gutshot.com/cardclub/card_club.php). It was a friendly hole in the wall place. Scott Fischman was there playing internet poker when I was there. It's basically a bar/internet cafe with 3 or 4 tables upstairs and 10 tables in the basement. Be warned that if you play the lowest limits, or some low entry tournies, you may have a player dealt game, which is pretty slow and annoying.

You do have to be a member at all cardclub's in England, but it's free and instantaneuos these days (up until a few months ago you had to wait 24 hours). Some cardrooms have strict dress codes (jacket, slacks, dress shoes), but Gutshot is not one of them.

EDIT: Looks like Kaz beat me to the post button.

Went to Grosvenor in July... NL/ PL Hold'em , Omaha (maybe both types can't remember)... No limit tables... 50-500 pound buy-in, with 1/2- 5/10 blinds...6 pound/ hr rake was ridiculous, but no dealers, so no tips (u deal urself)... they were disorganized about collecting rake and i paid it once in 4 hrs of play. Don't know if that's standard. There are other peculiar rules that u'll have to learn while there.

Hope that helps.
