aT vs a9
k9 vs k8
q8 vs q7
j7 vs j6
etc

In SnGs, I've folded lots and lots of K8 and A9.

So how much better are AT/K9/etc than A9/K8/etc?

Very little better. Only 0, 1, and 2 gappers have any increased percentage in flopping an open-ended straight draw. Below are some simulations I ran (so they are approximate).

Cards / % to flop a straight draw
JT / 10.5
J9 / 7.5
J8 / 5.0
J7 / 2.1
J6 / 2.5

The advantage of K9 versus K8 is not just the possibility of making a two card straight. It also comes from having a higher kicker to a pair of kings and that a pair of 9s will win more than a pair of 8s.

AJ makes fewer straights than AT, but AJ is much stronger.

This may perhaps be true. But A8+ > A5

A5>A4, A5>A6, A6>A4, A7>A5. Some of this is mentioned in SSHE, but I've also seen a post somewhere (prolly in Micro) about it.
