Insane bet match coupon

Hello all,

I rarely get the paper, but in the back of today's business section in the Houston Chronicle there is a bet match coupon. It reads "We'll match your bet up to $5000"

A read of the fine print provides the following info.

We will match one bet of a predetermined amount equal ot the amount you wager. No markers. Must choose match bet at time of redemption for $25, $50, $100, $500, $1000, or $5000. **Some restirctions may apply to particular games.** Expires April 30th official rules at Advantage center. Limit one per customer. (I think we can find ways around this limit one)

So what I'm sitting here thinking is. Are the resticions so crazy that this is worth nothing and they run this add every week? Or should I be driving all over Houston right now looking for quarters so that I can buy every copy of this paper in Houston before they get replaced in a few hours.

If they restrict the near coinflip games like BJ, Craps, Baccarat, etc, and force you to play something like a single number on roulette, the variance will be insane.

Don't count on getting around that restriction for more than a few bets- I'd wager that you need a comp card at whatever casino you'd redeem these at.

Also, look at it this way- in effect, the $25 match, on a double-zero roulette wheel bet, makes the house advantage -2.7% instead of -5.4% on your $25.

I'm bet that craps, baccarat and any other low house-edge bets will be excluded. Furthermore, these promotions are typically for 1:1 payoff bets, so you can't hope to gamble $25 on a single number on a roulette wheel, for example, or the poker bonus games such as Carribean Stud.

How do you figure?
-20/38 * 25 + 18/38 * 50 = 10.53

Seems clearly +EV, variance would be a bitch though. Am I missing something?

If you're allowed to bet on even payout bets, get a friend to go with you and place simultaneous opposing $5000 bets on dealer and player at baccarat. Then hope it's not a tie.

Please please please post a trip report if you went (or go). Assuming this is the place I'm thinking of, it's a large casino, but independently owned and managed, so I guess it's possible they'd think it's a good idea to give away $5000 match-play coupons.

And if that's possible, then there's a chance they wouldn't see anything wrong with you and a friend playing opposites at the same table.
