Blogs with multiple posters, such as http://www.dailykos.com have a tagging system by which readers can provide labels to threads. For instance, a poster writes about the Senate censure motion, and readers tag it with the labels: Russ Feingold, GW Bush, Senate, Illegal Wiretapping, War, etc. These tags are submitted via a submission field and an algorithm (e.g., X% of logged in readers) selects the best. Readers can then search the tags for a given topic or intersection of topics.

A hand can be posted (in an original post) that receives the tags, "KJo, OESD, free card, checkraised, coordinated board, etc." One can retrieve this post and others offering similar helpful information by searching for any of these tags. A tags system has advantages over search functions in general, and given the oft-lamented search function for these fora, one will have great potential here.
