View Full Version : Tunica 2+2 meetings

Last year was kind of a 30-response cluster thread about when and where to meet in Tunica, sooo:

At 7pm on Thursday evening January 12, I will be at the bar in the Horseshoe closest to the street / parking lot where the Sheraton / Horseshoe / Gold Strike all share a sidewalk. As you enter the Horseshoe from the Gold Strike (crossing a little street), you go down a corridor, and the main poker area appears on your left. By main I mean the one that is there year round and looks it. Keep going maybe 30 yards and you hit the island bar nearest the front parking lot / street. coltrane, CCass and Cero should be there then too.

At roughly 8pm I am going to the buffet. If anyone wants to come with, great. If you get to Tunica earlier, do us all a favor, tip the floor a few bucks quiet-like (they are now not allowed to take tips or so the rumor flies) and get 2-4 buffet comps.

Matt

That sounds like a good plan Matt.

unfortunately your directions are bit off and I can tell you haven't been to Tunica since last year.

The 'main' poker area isn't there anymore. It's a bunch of slot-machines now.

They have a much nicer, brand-new poker-room all the way in the back now....and have some extra poker-tables set up in the usual 'extra-poker-tables-during-tourneys' area as well.

But obviously you're referring to the bar that is closest to the front-entrance and it shouldn't be that hard for newcomers to find hopefully.

I'm in.

[/ QUOTE ] All you'll find is slots there now. The poker room moved about 6 months ago all the way in the back of the casino near the buffet. The bar your talking about near the old poker room is still there. Just food for thought, there's a new bar next to the poker room in the back of the casino.

REAL quiet-like. I floor tomorrow and Wednesday. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif The best way is to give it to the brush and ask them to give it to the floor.

I'm playing in the $550 at Gold Strike tomorrow night so I took off on Tuesday. If I go far it should be an all nighter. Thursday I'll be at work till 5 so if anyone needs buffets look me up and I can take care of it when I get out of the box. (I'm dealing Thursday but I can still take care of it when I get off)

I'll be showing up on Friday, so obviously can't make the Thursday meetup, but would be up for a couple drinks fri/sat night. Specifically - Patriots v Broncos 8p Sat night ... if there's a good bar which has some food (wings & beer) expect to find my brother and I there during the Pats game.

I assume all of you are Tunica regulars...do any of you know a full time NL player who looks like Jeremy Piven (douchebag from entourage) and talks with a deep southern accent.

Last 2 times I was in Tunica he was playing @ the horseshoe and the goldstrike with lots of cash.

I'm a Pats fan - this sounds good. Name the place.

Ok, so they got a new poker room. I will INSTEAD be at the bar adjacent to the poker room at 7pm Thursday.

Bar. In the back. Of the Horseshoe. Near the NEW poker room. Thursday. January 12. 7pm. See you there.

Surfin,

I am a Tunica local and the only guy thta comes to mind that plays decent NL is Andrew. He has recently just got back from traveling the country playing in the Dakotas, Montana etc. He is prolly 5'9" 140-160 and is in his late 20's to early 30's. Maybe that him.

Where you in Tunica during the tourneys only or just on random weekends?

Dude that's right, his name is ANDREW. Short hair, maybe minor balding. Noticeable southern accent.

I remember him b/c he got involved in a 2K pot at the 1/2NL game at goldstrike and he was a good player, yet extremely Laggy.

when I spoke to him he said he was a pro and by the way he played and stacks of cash on table I believed him...

I was there for the World Poker Open in 2004 and then I was there again last year for the same event.

Yep thats him, very solid player. He will use his table talk to project a TAG but we know what is really goin on. He is from memphis but he travels also.

His style absolutely crushes the local donks, well for that matter any decent player crushes the local donks. For those of you who havent been in Tunica on a non-event weekend ya'll should make a trip to realize how soft and deep these 1-2NL games play.

They have also been playing a lot of 5-10-25 PLO on the weekends, but it is only same 7-8 players in that game. (remember i am talking about non-event weekends)

Good Luck All.

yea, that 1/2NL @ the gold strike is legendary.

I bought in for $500 and there were two or more 3K+ stacks this is @ the 1/2 level.

Funny thing about my first trip to tunica, I met an older man named Wayne Tyler, he owned a car repair shop in Madison Wisc and told me that he met Hellmuth way back in the day right after Hellmuth dropped out of U of W. He told me how Hellmuth was a huge fish at first and used to get killed in their 5/10 game in the back of their garage. He also told me that Hellmuth got a date with a girl once and he went out and bought a brand new cadillac for the date. He then lost a shitload of money and had to sell it back to the dealership. Read this article from cardplayer and see the proof Hellmuth actually played in this guy's game.

Anyway I've met a lot of interesting characters in Tunica just being there two times.

anyway here is the article:

i think the bar at the back is a bit nicer and potentially less crowded too.
It's kind of buried around in the slot-machines there but shuldn't be too difficult to find.

Might make it Thursday.

Some people were recommending the Replays bar at the Grand in the other thread.
Don't know how good their wings are (assuming they even have them) but this might be a good place for Saturday football viewing.

This an open invitation to anybody Matt? I'm in Tunica too...

Matt Flynn

Sure. Open for anyone who plays poker and doesn't want to kill or injure me. The usual qualifications.

Sounds like a plan for the Pats game Sat night. I've done a quick google search, and Replay's is pretty much the only sports bar I see popping up in the immediate area - so even if their wings suck we're kinda stuck.

Gametime is 8p Sat night, if you can pull yourself away from the poker tables, swing by Replays and look for the red-bearded 6'2 guy in the RedRum cap. If the Pats are doing well I'll be really loud too.

[/ QUOTE ] I get off work at around 5 and plan to shoot over to Gold Strike to play a $120 satellite before the meeting. I'll be wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a thick light brown coat. Now it's off to the UB $215. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Wish me luck. $75000 guaranteed with only 260 players so far. Looks like UB's gonna losse a little cash on this one.

I'm 99 percent sure I know who you all are talking about. If I remember this right he had a royal flush on a board of AAKT4 and moved in for 4 times the pot. This uberdonk called him with A7 for his whole stack. This was 1-2 at the Gold Strike. It was a good game needless to say.

I will be around on the 19th- maybe I'll see some of you there.

I am heading to Tunica around 3 today. I am staying and playing at the GoldStrike. I am 21, about 6 feet with a medium frame. I look like a college student. I will be wearing a baby blue polo shirt and white Memphis Tiger cap.

I'll take you all out for drinks if I win this 1k WSOP Circuit event. I'm among the chip leaders with 50 left ITM.
