a few of the things I'm curious about and realize I may get told it's none of my bidnezz...
<ul type="square"> How are they chosen? Is there a list of requirements/qualifications? Is it a "regular" job for any of them? Is it a part-time job for some? Why is there no "Procedure Manual" so they all follow same guidelines? When a member has a problem/complaint with a mod what is the protocol? [/list]
I'm guessing other posters have questions, also. Or maybe not.

1)various ways,originally by Mat now the group pretty much picks

2) It could be said in many ways but I think it comes down to having shown that you care about the 2+2 forums. We all don't agree,infact we never do, but I can say that every Mod does care about making the forums the best they can be.

3)no

4)no

5)different forums have different cultures and require different types of mods. Also it's a pretty subjective task.

6) PM the mod or PM Mat.

I will attempt to answer your questions. My answers may not hold true for all mods.

* How are they chosen?

I think some volunteer, some are nominated by other mods and others are chosed directly by Mat.

* Is there a list of requirements/qualifications?

Not that I am aware of.

* Is it a "regular" job for any of them?

I think it is a regular job for Mat, Mason etc.

* Is it a part-time job for some?

I don't think most mods are paid. Mat is an exception.

* Why is there no "Procedure Manual" so they all follow same guidelines?

We do have a mod forum where we debate and establish procedures.

* When a member has a problem/complaint with a mod what is the protocol?

Mod complaints should be addressed with that particular mod. If this does not address the issue Mat should be contacted. Problems with Mat should be addressed to Mason.

Hopefully this cleared up some of your questions.

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

[censored] and Jim,

Thank you for your replies.

For the most part I wholeheartedly agree the mods have only the best interest in 2+2. Now that I know it’s strictly volunteer time, I give that attitude and concern for the well-being of the site a ton more respect.

I’ve read posts mentioning the mods private get-togethers and evidently they occasionally get heated. I see that as a good thing. And I understand how each forum has its own, unique “flow/texture,” so I understand many of the mods’ actions have to be subjective - they must have freedom/latitude in making decisions.

The “Procedure Manual” I asked about was prompted by some inconsistencies/actions (or lack of) I’ve noticed that fit more in the “Thou Shalt” category. Probably just my corporate background creeping in.

Again, thank you for the replies.

It is not Mat's full time job.

Mat is in red (with a little "A") because he is an administrator of the forums. That is different than a regular moderator. The people in green are not compensated by twoplustwo in any way for being moderators. In fact, the moderators of the Bonuses and A&amp;R forums (the "sponsored" forums) are essentially paying twoplustwo to have the forum to moderate.

[censored] and Jim have already taken care of most of your questions. I just wanted to add a few things about the rules. We've been pretty hesitant to call anything a rule because of how many exceptions creep up. Even things like "ban spammers" isn't preceeded with a "Thou shalt." All the mods are encouraged to use their best judgment about what is best for the boards at all times. Occasionally this results in disagreement. If that disagreement is between mods, that's what we have the mod forum for. If it's between other posters, then that's what PM's are for. IMHO, this system has worked pretty well. The only thing that's come close to being a hard and fast rule is for mods not to undo the moderatorly actions of another mod without consulting him or her (or Mat) first. Thus, if you have a problem with what a particular mod did, always take it up with that mod first rather than going to one who you might think is more sympathetic to your cause.

So, this hidden mod-only forum, is it really just full of porn? Come on, you can tell us.

[censored] would probably say the ability to ban certain people is payment enough.

I got to be a mod because I think Mat got tired of me complaining and was like "oh yeah, I'll show him".
