View Full Version : Would you buy a book written by me?

Iit seems the only thing missing from the poker book market right now is something written by a new-age limit player. I was thinking it could have two sections. One on my experiences and the other with strategy on shorthanded limit. To my knowledge there aren't any good books on SH LHE, specifically HU.

Thoughts?

If you give it a cool name, a lot of people will buy almost any new poker book. "Blood Poker: How to battle Short-handed and Win"

If you wrote a book and it was endorsed by some of the better players in mush I would buy it for sure. You're gonna have a tough time selling a lot books without more success in higher limit short handed games though.

I would actually buy this book.

Its a tough topic Kurosh, thats part of the reason why it has never been attacked successfully. Additionally its a very small market (although I admit this is changing fast) that is interested in learning about shorthanded play.

I suggest speaking with Mason about your concept, perhaps its something he would be interested in. If you really want to sell, perhaps you can team up with a shorthanded NL specialist to co-author. Lastly I suggest skipping the experiences, focus on shorthanded play only. The main chapters focusing on 6 handed, then additional chapters showing the player how to adjust to 4, 3, and heads-up play.

I'm not sure this would be a book that Mason would be interested in publishing.

But that shouldn't stop Kurosh from giving it a shot if he's serious about writing such a book.

I think your correct about Mason, but its better to discuss it with him and be turned down than to not offer him the first opportunity.

Send me your manuscript when it's done. I've started my own publishing company. I won't actually be publishing any books, I just like rejecting people's life works.

Just a prognostication based on the last year, but I think now is definitely the time to write a SH LHE book. Heck, full ring seems to be dying online, while SH games actually get better and better. (I'd guesstimate that Party 1/2 FR has dropped fully 10% in table average VPIP over the last 12 months. I'd also guesstimate that there is a barely any drop in the 1/2 SH games. Possibly they got looser.)

Flop games really seem to be more enjoyable when SH.

my general idea for a book would the following:

have a good pro, a decent player and a beginner celebrity each work together and document their experiences....

could have all kind of situations...

they could sit side by side on computer and play SNG (not against each other). and document the experience.

and the pro could play tons of MTT and SNG and tell us really how to bust these games for just huge win rates and return on investment.

i think there is enough stuff out there on shorthanded and eventually to be good it takes good reads.

i think people would be right into it... one thing about russell fox' book i love is he goes thru one of his live sessions (271 hands) hand by hand.

i think there would be interest in a book on SNG/MTT against mediocre players (lots of callers) and a book with exercises on reading the other players. basically if you want to be elite, you have to get heavily into reading the other players.

I would buy it for sure if you really put effort into it.

It should be geared only at advanced players. You could then easily sell it for $100, for me it'd would be a definitive buy.

A nice market book within a niche market for $100. Sounds like a best-seller.

If it's going to be $100, he should make sure it has a lot of cool pictures like Barry Greenstein's book.

Hi kurosh:

A very good book on short handed limit strategy might do well. However, the autobiographies, or poker books that contain much autobiographical material are not doing well. So if you do this book, I suggest you keep the section on your experiences as short as possible unless you are giving examples of precise hands that you have played with appropriate stategy detail.

best wishes,
Mason

I was thinking about it today and I agree with you Mason. Anyway, this was just something I was thinking about. I've actually been PM'd an offer. I guess the next step is to start organizing my thoughts and writing so I have something to present.

will you also include that pic of you wearing all the party crap?? (too lazy to find it right now).

I think this would be a stellar addition to your book.

Yes, I second this for the most part. Tackle 6-max and less.

Sure I'd buy it if it's it ends up being a good accurate work.

Kurosh,
sounds like a great idea and is exactly what the market needs. The market for poker books is oversaturated, but a limit short-handed/heads-up book is clearly missing and wanted. Keep us updated and don't be afraid to ask for help.

BTW-I am conflicted on a book of this type existing as short-handed limit has become my means of survival.

I have changed my mind about buying your book. After talking to several people, I now think you should just give me several copies - autographed of course.
