All of us would love to see poker rooms legalized everywhere as they are in California. But I see two mistakes with moves to get that done. One is a willingness to try to appease the anti-gambling crowd by putting restrictions on poker like charity only situations instead of for-profit cardrooms or limits restrictions, etc. And the other is failing to emphasize as a big point in poker's favor the fact that it is a beatable game played between citizens who give each other a fair gamble, instead of being played against the house in a -EV to everyone scenario.

Thanks for the article, but I live in Texas and can tell you this effort is DOA. The Southern Baptists and other evangelicals are too strong for something like this to have any chance of passing.

About 8 years ago, a very well-funded and well-organized lobby tried to have the law changed to allow cardrooms in racetracks (where gambling already takes place), and it didn't pass. If that group couldn't get it done, I see no chance for a poker lobby to make any headway.
