friend: guy here on SC
me: sports center?
friend: talking about how he went back into a plane that crashed
friend: to help a baby
friend: yut
friend: like
friend: what a complete idiot
friend: he easily couldve been killed
me: at what level do you risk your life for a baby?
me: like 99 percent chance of survival?
me: is obv yes
me: whats your threshold on survival
friend: o absolutely not
friend: umm 100?
me: what is yours then?
me: 99.999999999999999
friend: 100 then def yes


sorry if that convo isnt making much sense i was multitabling at the time. however, is my friend a bad person? also, what is your "threshold" for this situation, the percent risk you would survive to save a baby who had 100 percent chance of dying if you didnt intervene.

Your friend is being realistic. It's just that when a baby starts crying or a mother is in hysterics, most people don't stand back and mathematically evaluate the situation, they just act. They do this on instinct and don't think about the odds of themselves dying.

Friend is almost certainly an objectivist if he holds these beliefs, from what I know of objectivism.
