Any speculation on how the new statewide public smoking BAN will affect the Seattle area cardrooms?

Obviously the air will be cleaner and that will be a joy. But a few of the dealers at one of my regular rooms were predicting a large loss of clientele to the Indian casinos.

I'm thinking the regulars will want to stay at their local place and just go out to the parking lot for breaks, which if anything will just mean a few more 7-handed orbits.

like I stated in another forum of this topic...if it works in Los Angeles and other parts of California...it will work in WA...I personally wouldn't mind seeing the smokers going outside...9 out of 10 of them are inconsiderate any ways!...no more smoke in my face is fine by me.

I don't think that the no-smoking law will deter many people from returning to their regular cardrooms. The only people who this will really bother are those who CONSTANTLY smoke at the table, and really, who needs them. I'm very excited about this law being passed because I won't have to take a shower and wash all my clothes after I get back from playing.

On a side note, hopefully Wizards washes their chips, and cleans their chairs.

Word on the street is that if this passes, the Muckleshoot will also go non-smoking.

Don't quote me on this, but it sounds like a real possibility, and I'd be very excited if it actually happened.

Hallelujah!

I don't play the Seattle area rooms, but the La Center card room is going to see more of me. There are no indian casinos as close as La Center so I don't think a loss of patrons is imminent. I know many people who won't go at all because of the smoke. I predict they will probably need more tables to handle the traffic. The indian casinos should take a clue and make their rooms non-smoking too.

I make the trip to La Center about every 3 months and only stay for about 3 hours because I just can't hang any longer than that in the smokey room, even though it is only 30 minutes from my house. I won't go back until Dec 7 unless they start the smoking ban sooner.

This is pretty much what I think will happen.

Seems that there were always a number of players who would leave the table for a smoke break to begin with. I don't think this will affect much. I know I'm really liking it though.

I had heard that about the Muck's room going non-smoking too. The bottom line is that there are more non-smokers than smokers, and if the other rooms in the area are all going to be non-smoking, that is going to sort of force the Muck to comply. I for one would go to somewhere like Diamond Lil's instead of the Muck if one is non-smoking, and the other isn't.

The muck won't lose many players to this, if at all. I have heard mucks was thinking of going non smoking anyways, but not for 'competetive' reasons.

Diamond lil's you'll be sitting on a long waiting list forever if you get there too late. Especially if people are trying to 'avoid' the mucks smoke. They simply don't have enough tables to accomodate. Not to mention they won't get the 'bigger' action.

Now that we're closer to the actual date, could one of the Washington state regulars update us with any further details? What rooms are going N/S when, and if any of the Indian casinos remain smoking?

I smoke and I agree. Expect an influx of spit cups.

All non-tribal cardrooms will be non-smoking as of this Thursday, as per state law. Pretty simple, really.

And I'll be playing in a couple of non-tribal poker rooms this weekend, which is non-coincidental.

I am considering a celebratory trip to Lil's on Thursday to see how much better it is sans smoke. Depends on whether I shake this nasty cold or not.

Any update on this? I want to play some cards tonight and wondered if Muckleshoot was smoking or non. I live in redmond and wondered what the best closest non-smoking room was.

The cardroom at mucks is non smoking. The badbeat is up around $300k.

I can only comment on La Center and the impact there. Also was only there twice prior to the smoking ban taking effect. Hasn't impacted the number of players that I can see. Impact is that the table will often be shorthanded for periods of time as the smokers are out taking a break. Makes for some interesting moves with blinds posted or shorthanded. I think it has had an impact on the number of kill pots at La Center. So it hasn't changed the room at all but it has changed slightly the game at the tables. I miss not being able to smaoke at the table. Cheers!
