View Full Version : Session Reviews

I didn't see any posting of them. Is anyone interested in getting them going? I used to do these for limit and found them very helpful. It's also a good motivator to evaluate your play. If there is enough interest, I could coordinate it.

I'm really interested in exchanging perhaps a 1hr video with someone else with commentary.

If you're interested or if anyone else is intersted post here/pm me. I'll record a 1hr sesh 3 tabling with camtasia.

I think session reviews are more beneficial when reading HH than watching a video. Because you have time between each decision to stop and figure out what you're going to do rather having to have to pause, etc. I also think notes on different streets are more beneficial to read comments as you can go back to each decision more precisely.

dlorc

Not so sure I agree, you get comments and timing tells from videos that you dont get from a HH - and of course you have a pause button.

I'd certainly watch a video but I'm a bit more unlikely to look through a hundred hands.

So, we can split groups, you can lead the technology group and I can lead the paper group? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm interested in a HH review (too lazy to make a video).

New NL convert from NL - play mostly 50NL on Absolute.

It looks like NL25-NL50 is going to be the most popular.
The way I'm going to do it is that you review someone's HH and then you get your HH reviewed be someone else. This way you get differing view points. Also, it's highly suggested that you take whatever feedback you get and discuss any unclear points with the commenter.

I'm willing to review a session HH for someone at 10nl, I think it would be interesting. I'm probably not likely to actually play at all today but I could send a session from the 27th.

(I'm willing to do this with any stakes i'm just assuming those playing 25nl+ don't want my advice.)

No, no. Just because someone plays higher doesn't mean that they do everything better than you. Also, using old sessions is fine. Usually ~100 is fine if it's a session. It's highly suggested that you send a session rather than just some hands that you played so that you can give the reviewer a better feel for your reads.

Dont assume that. If someone refuses free advice they are a moron. All critisism is helpful to some extent. Plus I need all the help I can get. I have been break even over 50K hands at 10 and 25NL 6 max. Good thing Ive been rocking the HU poker.

So are we sending raw hand histories or making a PT session review video?

Cueballmania
12-01-2007, 06:57 PM
One note for all of you who are discouraged because you play too low. Think about it, if you play NL5 and have the opportunity to have a NL25 player comment, there is a huge chance for learning. The people who get review games lower than your game, remember that there is always room to improve and think about the game. Don't look at a NL10 HH and think "been there done that." Think, "How can I apply what I know now to the games I used to play."

Ask what the other guy wants. If he wants HH to import into PT to review, do that. You can import the HH into Excel to make notes or make notes in a text document.

EDIT: SSLH has some good formating ideas: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...=0#Post12783324 (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=12783324&an=0&page=0#Pos t12783324)

stupid question: will we be reviewing every hand, or just important ones (like a certain number of bb's?) or only ones sent by our swapping partner?

Cueballmania
12-01-2007, 07:15 PM
The way I do it is I go through each hand in the session making notes as I go. Usually the session is 80-100 hands. You send person A your HH and you get HH from person B. I recommend that you make notes on person B. Then when you get person A's notes on your session, go through them and discuss with him any thing you don't agree on or post the hand in thread. Person B should do the same with you.

Here's the plan, send a session of 100 or so hands to the person below you. Manbearpig, please send yours to kolotoure. We'll go until the 15th. Then we'll have another sign up and get new partners. Anyone who does not respond will be blacklisted. Good luck guys.

Just send the video to the person below you. You guys can kind of regulate yourselves.

dlorc

My assumption with a video was that

Player A makes video w/ personal commentary ( optional ) of his own session and exchanges with player B - they watch each others session video and comment via pm/IM/whatever for feedback.

Try and pickout any interesting hands in your exchangees video and talk to each other about why these hands were played the way they were.

That makes sense to me, video people poke me if you think there is a better way.

Presuming it's not too late, I'd like to join in with the video group. I've taken a bit of a sabbatical from cards for the past 2 months, so I'm rusty as all hell. I play a mix of 25NL, 30NL deep, and 50NL.

Whichever. I don't know how much time everyone has. Some can take 500, others only have time for 100. Talk with your reviewer. I really think the meat of this comes from the discussion after the initial review.

how should we be sending these, should we be just copying 100HH out of PT? should they be standard, tricky, what or does it matter???

Cueballmania

Jailblazers and Ducatsti can swap HH. I'll get you in on the second going, but since I wanted to get everyone someone to give a HH to and contact them before the forums go down, you missed the main group this time.

You can either take your HH files that are save on your computer and send it as an attachment or you can export a set of HH from PT to send it. I think the PT website has a tutorial on it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe you should probably just pull your last 100 hands. This way we can see how you play standard hands and maybe find something you might want to do differently there and it should also have 1 or 2 tricky hands where there might be some leaks. But I think randomness is a good thing and selectivly pulling certain HHs would not be as productive to everyone.

Jailblazers
12-02-2007, 12:35 AM
Also a few more questions.

1. Do you want us to show the results so that our reviewer doesn't get result-oriented?

2. Do you want the hands that YOU played? not just the raw files that you might get from getting HH sent to your email.

Edit: More questions. What are we looking for when we review the HHs. General leaks? Obvious/exploitable play? It seems it would be tough to comment on a particular hand without any reads on villain whatsoever.

ICMoney

Outplayed, you can talk with Jailblazers and Ducatsti to see if then can incorporate you, or you can see if someone else wants to pair up with you.

You should send an unedited session. You should makes comments on each play our hero makes if you have something to say. This is more of a critique of normal play. Think details. "This raise is too big", "this bet is bad because...", "notice that this villian is loose, so do this", and "I like this river play, did you plan for it on the turn?" Sure you're at a disadvantage at reads, but you should be able to discuss them.
