This player seems mildly passive, but it's only been a few hands.

Should I have bet/folded the turn and then check/folded the river instead of getting all stupid passive (which I rarely do, I just have been on a big aggro downswing and was trying to curtail my spew. I think this was going overboard though.)

On the end of course there is I think one hand I'm beating, and it's JJ.

a turn bet would be spew. Played fine, now shrug and call the river.

Lol ya you're behind JJ.

I've been trying to ask this question to me in every difficult situation right now:

(1) What hands am I ahead of and....
(2) Did they play the hand in a way that actually makes sense for that hand?

In this case, the only hand you might be ahead of would be A9 really. (AT hit trips, JT hit trips, JJ made straight, 76 made the straight, etc).

I don't believe A9 bets this river (which is the most likely hand you can beat), so I'm about 95% sure you're beat here.

Ooh... just realized something.

The extra ten actually counterfeits a lot of lower 2 pairs (98,87,97).

I still think it's a fold though, because with a 4-straight on the board, anyone with eyeballs knows that a lot of hands hit, and would check behind.

Oh yeah, I don't know why I typed JJ. Obviously. So I beat zero hands.

Actually I didn't realize this at the time, and I think that would have convinced me that 8-1 was okay odds.
