View Full Version : Weird question I need an answer to (Good vs. Evil)

This question is reminiscent of the poem 'Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow Wood'. Picture two roads diverged in front of you. One goes left, one goes right. Each path represents a choice to lead the most good of good lives or the most evil of evil lives. Which path, (left or right), do you picture in your mind being the good one?

I chose left - I have a feeling that in my case it's because you listed the paths left then right, then gave the description good then bad. I think I was mentally picturing and then labelling the paths in the same order in which you listed them.

interesting question.

I chose left pretty confidently. My guess would be that my choice was due to the reason bunny stated above and the fact that I am left handed. I've always preferred things left over right, kind of weird how that works for me.

I pictured good on the right, like the right lane on a highway... slow and boring, but safer and more predictable

evil is the fast lane... fun, exciting, and it's only dangerous if you're bad at being evil /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would be interested to know if people whose native language is written from right to left would tend to answer this differently.

my native language is arabic(right to left), but when i read english it has no effect whatsover, i also thought of the left-good correlation because of the wording structure..

I would imagine this would be correlated to what hand you are.

apparently not though by the results, unless 2+2 is 2:1 left handed

I vote right for reasons I leave you to divine.

I imagine it's correlated with what your political views are?

2+2ers are more likely to be ambiguous toward being politically "right" or "left" so it might not apply as much here.

I picked right because for some reason I was thinking right is positive (like on a number line) which is good.

Also, im right handed, and would consider myself more left wing then right wing.

I am a visual thinker, when making decisions I most often visualize the situation then act according to which way looks more right. When I consider the original question this is a representation of what I "see"

Left has always appealed to me as the "road less traveled." I may also have been thinking of the common association of right brain (and left body) with creativity, or the left-hand path (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-Hand_Path_and_Right-Hand_Path) view of spirituality.

And left sounds so much cooler in latin. 'Sinistra', how awesome is that?

And I think we can safely assume there are no romans here, there was widespread belief that left was evil afaik. Interestingly that is a fairly common old cultural belief, but we still hold that left is good...how weird, or should I say sinister, is that?
