Me and AZK are going up Saturday. Can we just show up and get the poker rate? How does that work? I don't want to make reservations right now and I don't have my credit card with me. I also don't have a Borgata player's card, and I think Ari lost his. Can someone hit me up with some info?

you can't get the poker rate w/o a borgata card, and there's very little chance of poker-rate rooms still being available one day in advance. guess you guys'll have to look forward to the comfort inn absecon!

The article in last months 2+2 mag says something about getting cheaper rooms if you play for a certain amount of time, but you have to rent the room the day you play.

Ive heard the Borgata had 39 dollar a night rooms. Is this as cheap as it gets?
I have no problem putting hours in but for example if I pull a 16 hour session on Sunday can I get a room for check in on Monday, or would I have to have the room booked for Monday, play and get the room reduced then?

Poker rates are subject to availability...weekend 1 days notice.... not a very good chance. If it were available it would still be over $39. $39 is the poker rate midweek with requisite time played

JEM7VSBL

the poker rate for weekends is a flat $125. you cannot get that reduced with playing time.

BrooklynPoker
01-06-2006, 02:43 PM
the main point is you can't get the rate on the same day...not on a weekend at the borgata at least

"Wrong. "

Uh...no. They will not adjust a weekend room, and even if they do it will only be to $99.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll look at the Tropicana. I also heard that Sands was cheap. I just want a place that will be easy to stumble back to when I get hammered.

haha. in a larger sense, because i really have no reason to - not on the east coast that much and ac is not a destination spot since i can play cards whenever i want out here. more specifically... i was living on the east coast when borgata opened and i spent tons of time there - this was before i had ever played poker. i was a bj guy. so the last time i was there i had a pretty nice run follewed by a very uncomfortable experience which involved a bunch of weird sht and ultimately in some swarthy green suited man informing me that i was no longer allowed to play blackjack there.

i talked to my host later and they let me keep all of my comp dollars and stuff, and told me i was welcome to play other games. blah, blah, blah...i'm probably not going back.

whoa, sounds like it could be a great story, more details please!

did they accuse you of card-counting? as far as i'm aware, a/c gaming laws PERMIT card-counting, so if they banned you from blackjack for that then that's total bs.

Im calling [censored] on this
Ac can not ban you for counting cards
I have been half shoed at the Hilton which has rediculous heat but the Borg has no heat whatsoever

lapoker17
01-07-2006, 08:23 AM
ha - dude - i have no reason to make this up. i was like 1/6 shoed - like the we got 2 rounds in before the shuffle etc. people at the table were like WTF? whatever.

it's all really semantics. u can call it banned, or unwelcome or whatever. the exact quote was "we will no longer comp you for bj play" and i said "ok, well what if i dont give a sht about comps and still want to play bj" and the reply was "then we will make that experience as unpleasurable as possible for you". maybe 2 articles or prepositions are different, but this is nearly verbatim - it is a vivid memory.

ok thats sounds about right
1/6th shoed lol
One night at the Hilton some gay homosexual looking pitboss came over and shook my hand while introducing himself as Harris the gay homosexual pitboss. He said "your style of play doesnt warrant comps anymore."
So I asked him if hes saying the rest of the table sucks, which got them all riled up which was pretty entertaining.

2 weeks later I'm in a very good count with one other player at the table and Harris walks by. He identifies me by my first name and says "you can't play two hands." Fair enough I spread to 3 hands. He turns around and I have 3 stiffs against a dealer ten. So this rocket scientist says "I meant you can only play one hand - you know what I meant" and makes me take all 3 bets back. Thanks buddy that beats early surrender which isnt offered anywhere anymore. This is an example of how paranoid and stupid casinos are when it comes to card counting. Dont get me started on the Plaza in Vegas.

Finally a few weeks later in the Hilton I am spreading RED waiting for my bus and had five jerkoff pitbosses hawking me.At this point I figured I'd prefer to stay and cost them money. I bet 5 bucks a hand with BS for the hour and with their stupid half shoeing I doubt I got in more than 50 hands that hour. This cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 dollar in EV and cost them much more than that in what their EV would have been with the donks at my table. Finally I got up and went to the cashier to cash out. On my way towards the bus I saw the pitbosses all scatter back to their regular pits and decided to buy in again at the same table just to make them all come running over and cut the shoe in half. Then I didnt even play a hand and left.
I havent played much BJ in the last year, but I never expericned any heat in the Borgata.
Sorry for the hijack.

call ahead of time...reserve the poker rate Sun-Thurs night. Get there, play 8+ hours, tell the floor on the way out that you played 8+ hours and you have the poker rate, they'll verify it and reduce your rate from the 100 or whatever they quote now to the 39.

As was noted earlier in the thread, you need a players card when you book the room.

Keep in mind that it's $39 plus tax.

I believe you need to play 8 hours between 6am and 6am. That is, if you play Tuesday night until 6am Wednesday morning you won't get a room comped for Wednesday night unless you log 8 hours during Wednesday. Occasionally I've arrived on a weekday and they haven't had a room ready until the afternoon. It's possible to leave the poker room without logging out, sleep 8 hours, and then go back and log out hence getting your play registered.

Won't work. Log in Tuesday afternoon, play until 5:00 AM, room discount will only be good for Tuesday night. You want Wednesday night, you have to play from Wed 6:00 AM for 8 hours.

that is such total bs. i wouldn't have thought that a high-rolling, classy joint like the borg would be so...petty. if i were you though, i'd go back and use up all my comp dollars on a lavish suite and a juicy steak, screw their pit games and just play poker.

ok but If I already have a room booked for Monday at 100 dollars but then play 8 hours on Monday they will reduce it to 39?
Any chance of getting it free if you are sharing it with someone who puts in 8 hours as well?

Yea, once you play 8 hours stop by the poker desk on the way out and tell them you have the poker rate and would like the rate adjusted. As for getting it free, I doubt it. Maybe if you convince your friend to play black chip bj while you're playing poker.

you can also get your rate adjusted when you check out. have the front desk call down to the poker room to get the rate reduced.

No, but if you are sharing with someone, you each need only put in 8 hours between you to get down to $39.

They won't go lower, but you are earning comp points ($1 hr under 10/20, $2 hr that and above), so that can help lower the room cost as well.
