I'd like to receive some feedback about how I played the hand and what I'm likely up against. No specific reads on villain. Thanks a lot!

Jesus, just bet bet bet. Taking goofy lines like this (especially at 5NL) is just pointless.

Bet flop, push turn. Every pocket pair is calling.

Thing I'd like to know is: am I supposed to go broke here against a set of 4s? I'm currently winning 10+BB/100 at this level, but hands like these make me feel quite stupid. I almost take pleasure in receiving bad beats after I put the money in with the best hand, but calling when beat makes me feel quite silly. Is this part of the territory?

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: If you're not, you're doing something wrong.

Yeah, if villain has 44 here, you just stack off and move on.
