Villain is 56/3/1.4 so his range is very big. How bad was my line? What should I do on turn? Should I cbet the flop, I think not as it's too multiway, am I correct?

If you are calling a bet from the button, you might as wel bet for yourself. You should c/f in a multiway pot imo.

Turn is a fold.

Should I raise it maybe preflop?

PF raise is fine though I would probably make it $0.50 here (4xBB + 1BB per limper) and then c/f flop

You should fold the flop, there are 2 overcards to your 88, you are OOP and villain doesn't seem like the best folder in town. That means you get to showdown a lot and getting there will not be cheap. Do you want a big pot here?

88 is a good hand to take up against someone with a 56 VPIP, but you have to be able to give up when your hand doesn't hit. You said yourself his range is incredibly wide, so he's easily going to have a Q or a T here - especially when he continues to fire on the turn.

If you have some kind of read on villan, what could your line be? Are you asking if villan doesn't have the goods and you should call him down OOP, or are you wanting to raise him off his hand? Both are pretty bad choices, imo.
