I'm going up to AC in a couple of days and was wondering if you need to bet a certain minumum (other than the table minimum of course) on table games to get rated at the Borgata like at Wynn/Bellagio

Thanks

anyone can get "rated" by signing up for the free players card program. all Borg accounts start at the Red Label level.

rough estimate is that 20% of your flat bet per hour (average BJ wager, craps passline etc) will be returned to you as comp dollars. doesn't matter if you're betting $5 or $500 per hand, the computer will definitely give you something proportional to your action.

now, if you're talking about discretionary comps (free rooms and meals outright) given manually by a floorperson or host, then they're probably talking a minimum $50-100 base bet for several hours of play. a solid green chip player might at least be able to squeeze out a buffet after a long session.

No minimum that I'm aware of. Only Borgata restriction is that to "earn" the comp $$$, you have to earn $5 in a "gaming day" (6AM to 6AM). If, as suggested, they give you (roughly) 20% of you flat bet, and you're betting $10 per hand, you'd need to sit for 2.5 hours or else you'll see nothing on the card.

I'm sure OP is referencing the fact that a lot of places in Vegas won't rate you unless you bet a certain amount. I've been told by a supervisor at TI unless I was betting $25, they wouldn't even look at me.

When I went to the Borgata a few months ago I got the Red Label card, it sucks cause we didn't even get to play there. There was 200+ on the waiting list for $1/$2 NL.

As long as you get a players card, you will be rated. Make sure you give it to the pit boss, but you sound like an experienced player who'd already know that. As a new player, you'll start out with a Red Label card.

I think your real question is, what betting level does a table player need to be at in order to garner significant comps? Well, based on my experience, the Borgata is similar to the Bellagio in that they'll barely notice you unless you're betting at least $25/hand. Given that there are VERY few tables of any kind with min bets < $25 hand, even flat bets at the green chip level aren't going to get you much progress.

If you're a craps player, please note that your Odds backing up your Pass Line bets do NOT count towards your rating (as the House has no advantage on the Odds play).

Borgata's comp system is easier to understand than Harrah's. You earn comp dollars, instead of Harrah's mystical-seeming 'points' system. Once you accumulate $1000 comp dollars, you are upgraded to 'Black Label' status, which gets you access to the VIP Lounge, room comps & priority check-in, discounts, and free parking in the garage. If you get that far, inquire about getting a personal host. In the meantime, it is easy to check your running comp balance at little automated kiosks scattered around the casino floor. Give them time to update, though, as your tracked play isn't uploaded in real-time.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions...

Harrah's Total Rewards system is very easily to calculate...for slots and video poker players. in the past, Harrah's table players definitely got next to nothing for their play, but they've made some strides to improve that recently (though the actual comp formula is still, as you say, "mystical").

if you grind VP for comps, then it's very easy to tell how many points you've earned up to Platinum or Diamond status. only $100K coin-in is required to reach Diamond, which you can then bring to Borgata to get automatically upgraded to Black Label. the comp rate at the Borg is "about" 0.25-0.33% so you're looking at least 3 or 4 times more action that Harrah's to get Black the "normal" way.

So I ended up playing about 15 hours (or so) mainly playing $20/hand pai gow about half the time and upping to $40/hand (2 hands) the rest

By the end of the trip they said I had 46 points though I asked about 2 hours before the end of a marathon allnight session

the comp rate for pai gow (poker I presume, not tiles) may be slightly lower than 20% flat bet per hour because a) the hands take longer and b) there are a lot of ties where no money changes hands.
