Any ideas on how smart/dumb it is to buy as many tickets as possible?

It seems that the more tickets are sold the cheaper this is becoming for Party and a good way to get people to spend their Partypoints instead of buying stuff in the shop.

So that's how they decided to redistribute the cash they siezed from ZJ.

Or, perhaps they don't have enough of the items shown in the store compared to the amount of party points that players have.

Party dropped the ball on this one. They should have done this promo before opening the store then laughed as everyone blew their points on a retarded promo.

I've got 46,000 points on my wifes account that isn't used anymore. Not enough to get anything good from the shop so i might buy 4600 tickets and see if i win one $200 prize, but i doubt it /images/graemlins/mad.gif

I will buy one or two tickets. If I lose, no big deal at all, since 200 pts is nothing. If I win $200, well, it's a hell of a deal.

The question is, how random is this? I'm not sure I trust it...

(of course I'll still probably buy a couple tickets)

I wonder if they are going to have a buy button on the account web page. Several of us have problems with the totals on that page. I'm afraid this could screw us up even more...

some initial (and probably faulty) calculations say that if you can buy .15% of the total tickets then they're worth .3 cents a point, which is about how much they're worth at the store?

NickMPK
03-03-2006, 04:26 PM
This is sort of an interesting game theory problem, in that if each player only buys one ticket, the value of that ticket will be very high relative to what they spent. But each player also has a unilateral to buy more tickets.

But if everyone buys a lot of tickets, each player now has a unilateral incentive to buy less.

I would suggest that everyone on the board agree to buy exactly one ticket, but it would probably be useless, as we will be swamped by fish who want to gamble, especially with the bonus for multiple tickets hitting.

In any case, rather useless promotion.

This isn't a promotion, it's a joke. Dump my Party points on a maybe? I don't think so.
Since they've opened up their store (and that took a long time) I venture to guess there's been a run on Ipods - tons of people like me who accumulated loads of points with nothing to spend them on.
So Party comes up with a scheme to get players to dump their points with NO guarantee.
If you fall for this one, I want you at my table.
I have no intention of buying a single ticket.

StellarWind

In all the time I've played no one has ever put an iPod in the pot.

This is a great promotion. Putting an extra $100,000 in the hands of the gamblers is a major benefit for all of us.

Appreciate what Party is doing for you.

Buying a couple tickets seems to be the worst option. I'll either blow all of my points on it to try to catch the $500 bonus, or I'll buy none. I haven't yet decided which. Trying to estimate how many total tickets will be sold is going to be quite annoying.

I just bought a few and the numbers are sequential and in the 15,000 range at the moment. 1 in 30 to win sounds good to me (15000/500). Assuming the same rate of sales for later days that puts you at maybe 1 in 150 for the draw date. That's not nearly as bad as I would have expected.

It would be useful if people would post their ticket numbers on an ongoing basis...

316XX now, so in less then 2 hours more then 15000 entries.

I think at the end of it all it'll be over 500K tickets. This promotion targets the lower recreational players who have a few thousand points not those of us who have accumulated enough points to get Ipods and the life.

Since they take out an average of 3 million per day in rakes and tourney fees and nobody seems to notice that, how is giving back 100,000 going to be noticed as a "major benefit" to the players?

Seriously, what you are saying is akin to stating that if you brought a grain of sand to the beach the beach would be better off.

212,504 = latest ticket number

still a better deal than buying merchandise at this point:
iPod 60GB video $400 / 100000 = $0.004 per point

$100,000 Mayhem / 21250400 = $0.0047 per point

About 400,000 tickets were sold (was 380xxx with 10 minutes left), giving each point a value of about .25 cents. I purchased 150 tickets and my crude calculations told me that this increased the value of each point by about .11 cents (by giving me a shot at the $500 bonus, which is separate from the $100k prize pool). It's entirely possible that my math sucks and that I made a horrible decision, but if I did everything right then it seems I'm accepting variance for the chance to convert my points to cash at about the same rate as they are worth in the store.

IWntErinNess
03-08-2006, 08:24 AM
i could be wrong but aren't the points in the store valued at about 3 cents each?

If 400,000 tickets were sold and each ticket was 100 points that would mean 40,000,000 points were redeemed to go for $100,000...

piki
03-08-2006, 11:17 AM
How much you're getting per point is dependant on how many tickets you buy - because of the $500 bonus. You're getting 0.32 cents per point with 150 tickets out of 380,000 total (EV of ~$48).

Maximum EV would be with 1370 tickets, weighting 0.46 cents per point spent.
